How this Liverpool transfer could provide a genuine momentum-boost for the club:

|

Wilfried BonyLiverpool have already seen the affect that signing a new striker can have on the season.

The Reds were probably the Premier League’s slowest starters this season, falling way behind expectations and disappointing fans on a weekly basis.

This, you have to say, was largely down to the fact that the club’s top brass had scuppered Brendan Rodger’s chances by allowing him to send Andy Carroll off to West Ham and then not giving him the cash necessary to sign a replacement last summer.

So when January rolled by and Daniel Sturridge was shipped it, it was like a breath of fresh air for the club.

Luis Suarez had shouldered the burden admirably up until that point, but Sturridge’s arrival showed the difference having a natural goal-scorer can have for a side. Despite costing just £12m, it’s clear that Sturridge is set for a big future with the Reds.

But I hope the promising start to his Liverpool career won’t prevent Brendan Rodgers chasing yet another striker this summer. After all, bringing in recruitment in this area seems to have a galvanising effect on this club.

That’s why it’s good to hear (via TalkSPORT) that Liverpool are in the hunt for Vitesse Arnhem star, Wilfried Bony.

A player with a name that fun to say, would surely be welcome in the Premier League. But it’s his goal-scoring record that will make him an attractive prospect for Liverpool fans.

This season, the Ivorian forward has scored 18 goals in 19 games, impressive figures by any one’s standards, even if he is playing in the Dutch League. The player himself is thought to be ready to take a move to a new club and with Liverpool’s apparent interest, they may make for a good match.

Indeed, it strikes me that he’d be a good addition for the Reds. Whilst he probably wouldn’t kick Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez from the Reds first team, he’d be an excellent option off the bench and when it’s time for some rotation.

He’s got pace, takes up good positions, always seems to nip in ahead of defenders. Most importantly, however, he’ll provide Brendan Rodgers’ side with some more much needed goal threat.

So if Wilfried Bony does fancy a move this summer, I can only hope Liverpool open their doors to him.

What’s your take? Would the Ivorian be a decent addition at Anfield?
