A £15.5m bargain for Spurs to mull over:

|

Alvaro-Negredo~23Tottenham fans have had a lot to celebrate this season, but the club does have a slight blot in its copy book.

The Spurs forward line-up is a black hole that seems to be sucking away all the talent from the club’s strikers. Instead, the onus has fallen on Gareth Bale (or perhaps Bale’s prominence has affected the confidence and morale of Tottenham’s strikers) to provide the goal threat at White Hart Lane.

Emmanuel Adebayor’s fall from grace (not that he was ever any kind of angel!) has been particularly spectacular. The gangly Togo striker has been next to useless this season. He seems to have misplaced his shooting boots, has no connection with any of his potential strike partners and can’t even hold up the ball any more.

Jermaine Defoe has been better, but hardly spectacular. The English forward has just returned from injury and now has an opportunity to steal the limelight away from Bale.

But it makes sense for Andre Villas-Boas to start weighing up his options and to start looking for potential additions in this department from the transfer market.

According to The Express, cash-strapped La Liga side Sevilla, are willing to listen to offers for their star striker, Alvaro Negredo. I can only hope that AVB is chomping at the bit to get a deal done.

It’s thought that £15.5m would be enough to sign the Spanish International, though Spurs may have competition from Manchester City. If Tottenham secure a top four slot this season, however, they’ll surely have enough cash to get their man.

And if they manage to get a Champions League finish this year, with limited options upfront, they’re sure to be a real force next season when they’ve got more to choose from.

Negredo certainly looks like a player who could improve this Tottenham side. He’s tall, stocky and powerful, but doesn’t lack for technique. He’s also intelligent, takes up smart positions on the pitch and is a natural goal-scorer.

The Spaniard already has 19 goals in 30 Sevilla appearances this season (despite his club’s decline) and has been a consistent threat in front of goal for the last four-five years.

His physique and style of play also give you the feeling that he’d fit in well in the Premier League. His price-tag and his ability level make him a purchase that Tottenham fans would surely find hard to argue with.

What’s your take? Would Negredo Alvaro be a good addition for Tottenham?

    Simply not good enough.

I’d love to see Negredo in a Spurs shirt next season. I’d also love to see Benteke & Damio in the squad. Ade has to go. Defoe could be kept as backup. Spurs real problem this season is the lack of a top class striker. Any 1 of the above would be a big improvement.

It is ridiculous that we never purchased a striker in the last window. It’s a well known fact that Spurs are in dire need for a striker of some class and have been ever since Berbatov letft us. I don’t know what Levy was thinking unless he is waiting to get hold of Dalmiao and if that is the case then I forgive him. Dalmiao is the player Spurs need so lets make sure we get him next time
