Why Manchester United should work out a swap deal for this £36m talent:

|

James RodriguezOne of the most impressive players that Manchester United have been linked to over the last couple of transfer windows, is FC Porto’s James Rodriguez.

At 21-years old, Rodriguez has already built a big reputation and is considered one of the finest young talents in world football. He’s exciting enough a young player that people are comparing him to the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Now, before we get carried away, nobodies expecting the young Colombian international to rise to that level of quality. It is clear, however, that he’s set for a big future and could be a key player at a big club. He certainly looks like the kind of talent who could thrive at Manchester United.

Manchester United have already agreed a deal for Wilfried Zaha, but James Rodriguez would take United’s squad to the next level. Indeed, as the likes of Ronaldo and Lionel Messi age, Rodriguez may grow into the kind of player that wins United a number of Champions League trophies.

Rodriguez has been part of a Porto side that has won back-to-back domestic titles (not that there’s much competition in Portugal) and is one of the Premiera Liga’s top goalscorers. He’s also no slouch in the assist-making department.

Last season he scored 14 goals in 28 games. This season he already has 8 goals in 21 games. He tends to get on the score-sheet more often than a regular winger.

CalcioMercato are reporting that Manchester United will close a deal for Rodriguez this summer and that Nani may be heading in the other direction. Now, wouldn’t that be the perfect deal for everybody involved?

Nani, who isn’t getting the game time he must surely desire at Manchester United, would have an opportunity to play football in his native country. FC Porto would be able to cope with the loss of a key player though the acquisition of a ready-made replacement and Manchester United would recieve a player with a big future and get rid of a player they seem to have lost faith in.

What’s not to love? It’s thought that Rodriguez has a £36m price-tag. By offering Nani as part of the deal, they’ll make the Colombian ace more affordable and could close out the deal.

I’ll be sad to see Nani go, but it may well be for the best.

What’s your take? Should Sir Alex Ferguson engineer this swap deal?
