A talented, but affordable midfielder for Liverpool to consider:

|

James McCarthyLiverpool Football Club has more or less driven itself into a corner. Years of big spending, backed up by successive years of failure and further investment has created a rather disastrous cocktail.

Kenny Dalglish’s investment in young British talent, that have failed to make the grade has been costly on two levels. Firstly, it has stopped the Reds competing for trophies over the last couple of seasons, as the quality of the team just hasn’t been good enough and secondly, it has prevented any further serious investment in the team.

King Kenny’s splashing of the cash must surely have been the reason why Brendan Rodgers was unable to bring in a replacement for Andy Carroll last summer. Now he’s brought in Daniel Sturridge, things look a little different, but how fans must wish that Liverpool had proper support for Luis Suarez before this January.

Regardless of all this, it’s now completely clear that Rodgers will have to build a competitive team on a budget. This is a mighty big challenge and it’s going to take some seriously clever purchases to pull it off.

But it’s not impossible. Managers like Arsene Wenger have done it before, snapping up gems at bargain prices and creating winning teams.

And Brendan Rodgers may have to compete with Arsene for James McCarthy, one of the the Red’s transfer targets.

According to The Mirror, Arsenal, Liverpool and Everton are all set to duke it out for the dynamic midfielder. But is James McCarthy the kind of player that Liverpool should be looking at?

In my book, yes, absolutely. He’s the kind of player who wouldn’t break the bank, but has the talent to take Liverpool to the next level. He’s more than outgrown his surroundings at Wigan and the 22-year-old is clearly on route to a big, illustrious career. I just hope it’s at Anfield.

The player himself has admitted he’s ready to weigh up his options: ”

“Obviously, it’s good to see your name linked with big clubs, certain clubs, it’s always nice… I have been linked with clubs here and there but I will keep working hard and see what the end of the season brings.”

It’s more or less clear that he’d be willing to move on should the right offer come in. It can’t be fun fighting for survival every season. It’s time for McCarthy to show the world what he can do. Let’s hope that Brendan Rodgers is keeping tabs on the youngster.

What’s your take? Should Liverpool snap up Wigan’s gifted midfielder, James McCarthy?

What makes you think a young British player already playing regularly in the PL will be “affordable”???

That’s aside from the fact he’s actually not as good as Henderson, Allen, Coutinho, Sterling or even Shelvey?

you can imagine what they are going to want for him.

For me as a Liverpool supporter i will like to see a talented midfielder like James McCarthy at LFC.

“Stopped the Reds competing for trophies over the last couple of seasons..”

Erm, 2 finals reached, one trophy won.

“Wenger has done it before, snapping up gems at bargain prices and creating winning teams.”

Now you are just being silly. Since Arsenal’s last trophy, Liverpool’s “successive years of failure” has seen them reach 5 major finals, winning 3 of them (CL, FA, LC).

By all means, give us a transfer option to mull over. Just don’t insult readers with your inaccurate and statistically indefensible musings. It renders this site laughable.

You actually have a forum to write this sort of crap. Get your facts right mate. You actually claimed in your article that Kenny’s investments in British talents has stopped LFC from competing for trophies in the last couple of years when it is obvious to all of us that Liverpool actually made two domestic finals last year alone.
    What a shallow article.
