The IDEAL start to Arsenal’s upcoming spending spree?

|

Asmir-BegovicIf the last couple of weeks have proven anything, it’s that Arsenal’s PR machine is as well oiled as ever.

It can’t be a coincidence that news of a rumoured £70m ‘warchest’ started to spread after the Gunners had been knocked out of the FA Cup.

Let’s stop there, shall we? The Gunners were knocked out to Blackburn Rovers, a side that looked bereft of ideas, endeavour and quality. Blackburn’s current team is nothing like the squads of old. The fight, physicality and plucky attitude seems to have been drained out of the Rovers.

So how in the world can Arsene Wenger attempt to explain the Gunners 1-0 defeat?

Arsenal dominated the game, won a bucketload of corners and fired in a few shots, but never really looked like troubling Blackburn until it was too late.

The worst thing about the whole sordid affair is that it gives the Press an opportunity to go on an all out offensive against the Gunners. And the tabloids are having an absolute field day.

If the whole thing has gotten on Arsene Wenger’s nerves, you can only imagine how the fans are feeling. They’ve been let down yet again, by a lack of genuine exertion and a lack of investment in the transfer market?

If Arsene Wenger is to keep his job, he surely has to do some serious investment in the squad? We can only hope that the rumours of the £70m warchest are true, because Arsenal need it.

So where should Arsenal start? The Metro claim that Wenger is looking to rival the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool for Stoke City’s much lauded shot-stopper, Asmir Begovic.

This, for me, would make for an excellent start. Begovic is the most important part an impressive Stoke defense, a fine shot-stopper and a good organiser of men.

Like most people, I’m a fan of Wojciech Szczesny, but he’s mighty inconsistent. Providing him with competition on this level is sure to spur on the Pole and the rest of the defense.

Stoke City have brought in Jack Butland, so must surely be resigned to the fact that Asmir Begovic is on his way out. He wouldn’t break the bank, but he would significantly improve the strength of Arsenal’s squad.

I’d say that’s a good start, before Arsenal move on to signing some ‘bigger’ names.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal be in the market for Asmir Begovic?

If Wenger wants to get the gunners going he shd get top quality players not wc potential like Chamberlain. I have nothing against him. He will come good one day. The problem is in the current circumstances, time is of the essence.

i think that he would be the ideal start but as you undoubtedly know we need to start buying big name players, well personally speaking i dont think that buying big name players is the answer however a lot of arsenal fans do. i think the likes of steven jovetic, who’s not far from arsenals price range would be a great signing, jesus navas from sevilla is another great affordable player as is arda turan from athletico madrid but what we really need is a big physical holding midfielder, like a young vieira or a yaya toure, wanyama has been linked to us for a while now but i’m not convinced by him, etienne capoue altho’ i dont know as much about him , for me would be the better buy. this talk of david villa coming to us is starting to annoy me as well, he’s too old, too injury prone and will cost around 15 million.

@casanova totally agree with your points 100% ! Arsenals defending is so bad we might need two defensive midfielders, but we definantly need a new keeper, szczesny needs competition he parries the ball to much, which allows for rebounds…
