TWO incredible transfers for Arsenal to consider – but can Wenger pull them off?

Despite Arsenal fans feeling (understandably) glum throughout the current transfer window – ‘why haven’t we bought anybody already?’ – a recent Arsene Wenger interview seems to have triggered a surge of optimism.

After going back and forth regarding his desire to spend, Wenger finally seems to be talking targets and has a couple of very high-profile players in his cross-hairs. Indeed, these would be marquee signings that would have a major role to play in Arsenal’s future.

The players in question, are Wilfried Zaha and Edinson Cavani. Regarding the Crystal Palace winger, Wenger commented:

We’re looking at Zaha but there’s no bid… Whenever you call about any player, Man United or Milan are also interested. The truth is it’s difficult.” (Source: ESPN).

You get the feeling that the intensity of Arsenal’s interest in the wing wizard is reliant on Theo Walcott’s willingness to sign a new long-term deal. Should Theo stay, there may not be a need for Zaha, but should he ship out, Zaha would make for an excellent replacement.

Then there’s the most exciting player Arsenal have been linked with for some time: Edinson Cavani.

“Cavani is a player that I like. What is for sure is that he costs a lot of money.”

Well, it’s no surprise that Wenger likes him. Edinson Cavani is an incredible goal-scoring talent. In three seasons with Napoli, he has scored 91 goals in 118 appearance – a fantastic strike-rate. He’s strong in the air, along the ground and he works extremely hard. The truth is, he’d cost Arsenal an incredible sum of money – the kind of money that the Gunners rarely cough up.

But he’d be a transformative player, indeed, he’d be a suitable replacement for Robin Van Persie. At 25-years-old, the next club to sign him will have him during his best years. Imagine if that club were Arsenal – would that be enough to take them back to the top of the Premier League?

If Arsenal were  sign, Wilfried Zaha, Edinson Cavani and get Walcott to agree new terms, I’m sure fans would consider their club to have had a barnstorming transfer window. That, however, may be a little too much to ask. In this case, two out of three may not be so bad.

But I’d take one out of three if it meant Edinson Cavani joining the Gunners.

What’s your take? Which direction should Arsenal head in the transfer market?

Zaha wouldn’t be a big addition, while the kid has talent and will be a top player he is no use to us, he will have to go back to Blackpool for the remainder of the season, so he’d make no progression to the side this season!! Still have him for the new season but that’s not relevant atm
