Liverpool set to secure TWO great transfer deals: the start of something new at Anfield?

A new year and a new opportunity for Liverpool to pull themselves back into contention. Yes, Brendan Rodgers’ Reds have been an unbalanced mess thus far this season, but on the back of a 3-0 win over QPR and the January transfer window opening, Liverpool fans have some reason to be cheerful.

If the right additions are made this January, who knows what may happen. The Reds are in the privileged position of have clear and distinct knowledge of what the lack: options upfront.

And from everything we’re hearing about Brendan Rodgers’ upcoming transfer activity, he’s looking to right this wrong.

It looks like a deal for Daniel Sturridge will soon be agreed and now there’s a lot of talk about a loan deal being struck for PSG striker, Gameiro. (Source: The Telegraph).

This must be music to the fan’s ears. They’ve been forced to watch a team whose only real source of inspiration is Luis Suarez, for so long now, that to actually have different options will be something of a luxury.

Gameiro joined the Paris based side in the summer of 2011, when he was considered to be a top French striker. At the time he was valued at £9m, but his stock will have fallen since.

Yes, he scored 14 goals last season, but the arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic has rather limited his opportunities at PSG.

In other words, he’s a player that’s in desperate need for a change of scenery. With the routes to regular game-play blocked at PSG, a loan move would be the perfect tonic. Liverpool would offer an opportunity for him to recapture his best form and re-establish himself on the European scene.

What most excites me about this deal, is that it looks set to be struck in tandem with a deal for Daniel Sturridge. Brendan Rodgers is doing his level best to fix the issues with his squad and is making smart purchases in order to do so. He may not be breaking the bank and going for the very best players, but Liverpool aren’t in the position to do this anymore.

Still, it’s hard not to get excited when a deal for two players just makes so much sense. So, let’s hope that Brendan pulls this one out the bag, snaps them both up and helps to propel the Reds back up the table.

What’s your take? Would Gameiro fit in at Anfield?

They’re will come a time when lfc make great strides forwards . For too long average players have donned Liverpool red. This cycle is about to break. Think of the wasted millions from David speedy and David burrows to cisse and Carroll . Literally hundreds of millions and we’ve gone backwards.this won’t go on we may just get lucky so I’m optimistic the next TWO years will see Liverpool come back .it’s time to enjoy ourselves again..

    • David speedie?, his goals to game ratio was actually very good I think it was 8/14 and as for burrows he was a regular starter at left back in the last LFC title winning team of 1990

LFC NEED to get Jack Butland NOW!!!

That will set this team up for years to come!

  • Tron says:

I’m sorry but LFC transfer dealings are still a joke. Time and time again LFC seem to buy over paid useless players. Sturridge will be another expensive flop. How do these guys even make it pro?

    • Don says:

Nothing like judging a player before he’s even kicked a ball for LFC! You should try to be a bit more positive. BR is doing the best he can under trying financial constraints.

  • mark says:

Rodgers needs to sign top class, quality and proven players if LFC is to secure a top 4 finish. Its time for the club to become a competitive force once more. So please Mr. Rodgers, just remember that you are managing a top club, which is very different from a Championship/Division 1 club. Maybe follow the examples of Ferguson and Wenger and learn how to identify and sign on top class players.

  • Bejnay says:

We don’t have owners willing to spend like the big clubs, at the moment. Kenny and Comoli ruined that.

    Once bitten, twice shy, right?
Blame it on Rodgers all you want, but you can’t buy world class without having the ability to spend world class, and right now, LFC doesn’t have that.

    • Gaz says:

Can’t spend world class when we are not in CL. The owners are doing the right thing by keeping us out of debt. They do spend money, they have proven this, but they won’t overspend, they will buy value for money. Too long Liverpool have had to pay at least 5 million more than other clubs because we are Liverpool, FSG are rectifying that, which is why we didn’t buy Sigurdsson and Dempsey, not because we couldn’t afford them, but because we will not be held to ransom.

  • Illusion says:

who builds for the future by taking players on loan? Next season he probably won’t be here coz he’ll be too expensive for us..we’ll pay a big loan fee, their wages n we’ll end up worse than before..just have a look at sahin to see what i mean..
if u want to have big players, either sign benitez/wenger scouting team (ours are not a reference anymore) n u get players for a fair price or spend like city/psg owners..

    • Gaz says:

Actually, loan deals make sense, if they work out, great, we can buy them at a cut price deal and potentially qualify for CL. Also, with Sahin, he needs to get acclimatised to the EPL, he needs to get stronger, which is why he has looked a lot better in Europa, same with Assaidi, he also needs to get stronger.

    • Eoin says:

Are you for real mate? Benitez scouting team!!!!! He signed more duff players than any Liverpool Manager and spent a hell of a lot of money in doing so – despite constantly bleating about how hw wasn’t being backed by the board. I see his famous “rotation” has already bitten Chelsea hard with a loss at home to the formidable Q.P.R.

  • Theo says:

I think walcott will sign for Liverpool because Wenger still cannot conclude the deal. Walcott is a liv fan..

    • Cameron says:

I sort of agree but Theo has done alot for arsenal but then yes, he is a Liverpool fan.

I want hunterlar at Liverpool but that’s only really a dream. U don’t think it will ever happen.

  • Spoonthumb says:

So much crap comes from the fans of LFC. Liverpool is not a world class side right now. It is taking strides to fix that but the fans have to get their heads out of their arses and accept that to get the kind of players that other teams attract we have a long way to go. Sturridge is a good player who will give options. We need more players but we also need patience from the fans and a reality check from the misguided few who still think we are still great. This year was all about BR building and that is what he is doing. I am pleased with things so far but there will always be the few who want immediate change and results. These few need to back off and let the manager do his job.

  • Bob says:

We should be looking at Walcott not some clown from France, a considerably easier league, that only scored 14 goals last season as a central striker. Why oh why is Rogers not bidding for him, or trying to get him onto a pre-contract for the summer.
