Could Arsenal strike the £10m bargain of the January transfer window?

|

According to The Sun, David Villa is available and would cost Arsenal around £10m. I’d say that’s a fairly good price for Spain’s all-time top scorer.

It’s hard to look at the forward line that scored 4 goals against West Ham in ten minutes, forcing a 5-1 victory and say that it needs improvement.

Yet this is the same forward line that has been unable to threaten against big sides like Chelsea and Manchester United and has also struggled against smaller teams like Bradford City and Norwich City.

Yes, on their day Arsenal can play some absolutely astounding football, but when it’s not their day, the look like a fairly average side.

It’s up to Arsene Wenger to make the kind of transfers that ensure Arsenal never have an off-day.

I don’t think it’s outrageous to suggest that David Villa is the kind of player who can help Arsenal provide more of a threat in game in which they’re struggling. He’s an almighty goal-threat with bags of experience, mobility and fancy feet.

Despite his years (he’s now 31!) he’s considerably more sprightly than Olivier Giroud, works hard and always causes problems within other defenses.

According to The Sun, David Villa wants to leave the Nou Camp, despite the Spanish giants insisting that their famous forward is not for sale. The truth is, however, there doesn’t seem to be a real need for Villa at Barca anymore. Since his long-term injury last season, other players have made the step up and Villa has been left on the side lines.

I don’t doubt that this has left the Spaniard dissatisfied and he’d likely jump at the opportunity to join another top club.

I think he’d slot in nicely at Arsenal. Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere could use a more agile target man than Giroud and Villa’s intelligent runs would allow the Gunners to stretch the game a little more. He’s sure to thrive playing alongside effective wide-men like Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski.

If he’d really cost just £10m, he’d represent an absolute bargain. Yes, he’d have no re-sale value, but he’s sure to provide Arsenal with enough goals to earn his price-tag. Who knows, he may be exactly what the Gunners need to secure Champions League football and then he’d more or less be paying for himself!

What’s your take? Should Arsenal strike this £10m bargain?
