The futures bright, the future for Rangers is Green

And so as the curtain calls on the calendar year, 2012 will undoubtedly go down as the most eventful in the history of Rangers FC.

Since their formation in 1872 the 140 years of the famous Glasgow club have been littered with so many momentous occasions ranging from the tragedy of the 1902 Ibrox disaster to the glory days of the sixties and seventies which saw the Light Blues reach three European finals and land four trebles, the horror of another stadium disaster in 1971 to the arrival of Greame Souness and the English invasion when the likes of Woods, Butcher, Wilkins and Hateley headed north, the David Murray era when cash was no object and Laudrup, Gascoigne, Flo and the De Boer brothers were enticed to Govan to the incredible last day championship wins in 2003 and 2005, to the return of Walter Smith and the never to be forgotten European run which culminated in an astonishing 200,000 supporters descending on Manchester for the 2008 UEFA Cup Final.

But all of this that was nothing, absolutely nothing, compared to the fall from grace and rebirth of the Gers in we have saw in the last twelve months.

How the 54 times Scottish Champions got themselves into the sticky stuff has been well documented, the fascinating thing now is to witness how Charles Green will continue with his plans to take the Glasgow club now just back to the top of the Scottish game but also back to the top table of European football and regular participation in the Champions League.

It was revealed last week that £22 million was raised via a share issue, a healthy figure for a club currently plying their trade in the lower reaches of the Scottish game.

Around three quarters of that cash injection came from London based investment firms a sure sign that Charles Green has been able to sell the potential of the club who with the continued backing of an enormous loyal world wide fan base simply cannot be underestimated in their attempts to rise from the ashes of the liquidation.

After having his motives viewed with real suspicion Green has won over the backing of the Rangers support though a small schism may be on the verge of being created between the two over the Yorkshireman’s desire to offer stadium naming rights to the likes of Mike Ashley and his Sports Direct business.

However most Rangers supporters are taking the educated view that after witnessing their beloved club being forced to their knees because of a lack of financial security any moves which can bring in much needed investment simply cannot be dismissed.

From next year Green will be assisted in his attempts to sell the Glasgow club and ensure that any dubious reporting of the club will be questioned head on by recently appointed Head of Communications Jim Traynor, a former heavyweight in the world of Scottish football journalism.

On the park it appears after a slow start Ally McCoist’s men have adapted to life in the Third Division with convincing thumpings becoming a regular occurrence and the likelihood of the title being secured in early spring a realistic possibility.

So when the bells toll on the year 2012 Rangers fans will be toasting the back of a year best forgotten but also to signs that better days are ahead.

Rangers at the moment are underdogs of the old firm. At the moment.! Perhaps we will be 5 years to catch up but one day we will. If we meet this seas celt will be hot favourites as we have a team of mostly young Scots lads but they will give their all and that is all we can ask. Beat us 5 or 6 nil and we will still be supporting our blue heroes!
