Tottenham fans must have very much enjoyed Tuesday night’s football. Watching the old enemy, Arsenal succumb to their worst defeat in recent memory (in terms of the caliber of the opposition) must have warmed a few cockles across a chilly North London.

But whilst Spurs have hardly been leading the charge themselves this season, they’re currently two points above Arsene Wenger’s side in the Premier League. Could this be the season that Tottenham finally exert their dominance over Arsenal?

As things currently stand, I’d argue that Arsenal and Tottenham have rather similar levels of quality in their squad. Both first teams are full with (underperforming) talent and both provide diminishing returns when you start looking at their benches. With that in mind, January is sure to be an important moment in the history of each club.

If Andres Villas-Boas performs well when the transfer window re-opens, he may well be able to pull away from his North London rivals and leave Arsene Wenger in the dirt. Now wouldn’t that be something for Tottenham fans to enjoy?

I have to say, the signs are good. I’m talking in particular of The Express’ claim that Tottenham have been ‘tracking’ Ajax starlet Christian Eriksen, ‘for quite a while’. The Danish youngster is widely acknowledge as one of the most talented young players in Europe.

At just 20-years-old, the midfielder appears to have it all: an eye for a pass, a great reading of the game, the ability to nab goals (5 so far this season) and best of all – consistency. Whilst so many young players tend to drift out of games, Eriksen likes to get as involved as possible. He’s the beating heart of the Ajax midfield, loves to dictate the tempo of the game and has the ability to move the ball about quickly and bamboozle opposition sides.

He’s a player who could really add something to this Tottenham side. Whilst players like Moussa Dembele have added something to this midfield, adding a technically gifted player like Eriksen will act as a signal of intent for Andres Villas-Boas. He’s the kind of player that Arsenal used to snap up for fun. It’s time for Tottenham to get there first. Whilst it would only be a victory in the transfer market, it’s sure to translate soon enough into victories on the pitch.

What’s your take? Would Christian Eriksen be a good addition for Tottenham?

Hell yeah the kid is class and will only get better. Can pick a pass, keep possesion, and he has that extra bit of imagination we could always do with a player like that. Moutinhos good but too damn expensive I rate his leadership qualities though. Id go for Christen Atsu from Porto the Ghanian Bale.
