The £16.3m versatile attacker to help Tottenham take their season up a gear?

Even the most optimistic Tottenham fan must have their fingers crossed behind their back. This is a fan-base that has dared to believe on so many occasions, only to be left down. It’s tough being a Spurs fan, but somebody has to do it.

But there’s no denying, that barring a few minor slip-ups, Tottenham have started the season well. With an injury crippled side, Spurs have already asserted their dominance over North London rivals Arsenal and look to be in with a genuine shot of a fourth place finish.

Still, there will forever be that need to temper optimism amongst Spurs fans. Harry Redknapp’s boys managed to lose out on fourth last season by allowing Arsenal to overcome a 13 point gap – abysmal stuff and just the sort of thing that Andres Villas-Boas will be looking to avoid.

So you can bet that Villas-Boas is currently looking towards the January window as a chance to purchase some reinforcements and build on his sides’ good start. But who will he be looking at?

There’s one rumour currently doing the rounds that I find particularly exciting. TalkSPORT claim that Tottenham (and Liverpool) are considering a move for Jose Callejon. The 25-year-old striker has struggled to fit in at Real Madrid, where he is surrounded by players of incredible talent, who have well and truly earned Jose Mourinho’s trust.

It’s fair to say that he may fancy a move to a club that could offer more game time should his situation not improve. Still, he’s a versatile attacker and always seems to impress when given an opportunity. With that in mind, it’s worth considering that Spurs will likely have to pay £16.3m and activate Callejon’s release clause, if they are to have any hope of snapping him up.

But it would be worth it. He’s a player who can play out wide and use his pace and trickery, or upfront where the team would have access to his impeccable finishing ability. At 25-years-old, he ought to be playing for a team who can afford him regular football. Tottenham will certainly be able to offer this and you get the feeling that he’d fit in nicely with the AVB attacking philosophy that he’s looking to cultivate.

All in all, a good, if costly transfer – indeed, it could be just the kick up the backside the club needs if it’s to enjoy the second half of the season as much as the first.

What’s your take? Would Jose Callejon be a good fit at White Hart Lane?

Naaa!!! Alvaro Negredo is what we need at the moment.

  • bazza says:

Nowhere near the quality we need and nowhere worth £16.5 mill you mention, which is roughly 20 mill euros, Real only paid 5.5 mill euros to get him back a year or so ago and he’s hardly offered anything to suggest that was a cheap price since

  • callejon growing potential when playing in premier league.

  • frankie warrior says:

I think Jose Callejon would be a very good fit in the Spurs side and if we can’t get him then i would like to see us go for Alexander Pato he’s the most skillful striker ive ever seen and scores goal from anywhere and can take on defences on his own.

It won’t happen for one major reason….LEVY

  • Gooner says:

Get Clive Allen back that cart horse is better than the current donkeys

  • Steve says:

We didn’t lose out on fourth last season, lost out in third! Chelski spawning the Champions League cost us.

  • joey says:

Agree with baz can’t see how he is worth anything more than what they brought him back for. £16m???? Also agree with feenix Levy is too clever to pay so massively over the odds for a player all power to him.

  • Andrew says:

At this point in time I almost don’t care who we sign as long as he/they will help the team progress further up the table challenging for 3rd or 2nd spot and winning the FA Cup. The saying is, you get what you pay for, and that’s what often separates us from the big boys. If we want to show that we’re a serious threat to the likes of both Manchester teams and Chelsea, we must strongly consider the possibility of purchasing 2 or 3 players worth more than £18m while offloading at least Bentley, Gallas, Jenas and maybe Rose. Purchase a proven comodity in that signing rather than someone who just has superstar potential.

That’s just my 2 cents worth.

And to think we could have had Radamel Falcao for around £20-25 million a couple of yrs ago when he was @ Porto, and he was interested when told of a link to Tottenham, as his dream is to play in England and he was already taking English lessons. Shame Levy didn’t put his hand in his pocket then!!! Shows how much the idiots on the Vital Tottenham website know coz they basically laughed me out of the room for saying we should buy him!!

  • defectedmonkey says:

He’s not the kind of player we can afford to take a risk on. Is he worth half a Modric? No. His worth is below £5million because he doesn’t play enough games and is largely unproven.

  • JD says:

Falcao is the dream attacker the perfact goal scorer but hey dream on , bigger guns than us will get the guy if he is interested in moving .

    • Doc Jones says:

Nice to know that finally someone agrees with me that Falcao’s a pretty decent player lol. And it’s such a nice dream…
