Liverpool in the market for Argentinian ace – should they snap him up?

Liverpool fans must be feeling thoroughly fed up. The entire season thus far has been a large scale disappointment and the 3-1 defeat to Stoke City is the tip of the iceberg.

Yes, Stoke City are a tough side to break down, but the Reds shouldn’t be letting them knock three past their keeper. Defensive uncertainty, a lack of midfield cohesion and too little threat upfront has created a side without any balance.

The arrival of Brendan Rodgers was supposed to signal a new era. He was the man with the plan, who was arriving at just the right time to apply ointment to Liverpool’s wounds. As it happened, the club weren’t really willing to back him in the transfer market and Rodgers has found it hard to make the step up.

Something needs to happen in the transfer market to wake Liverpool from its slumber. It’s time for Brendan Rodgers to start earning his wage.

I’m sure many fans will have turned their nose up at the stories linking Liverpool to Wigan’s Franco Di Santo. This, I believe, is a mistake.

The Mirror claim that Liverpool are set to sign ‘another striker’ (presumably in addition to Daniel Sturridge) and that the 23-year-old Argentinian striker is the man who has most caught Brendan Rodgers attention.

The headline ‘Liverpool linked with Wigan striker’ is unlikely to get the heart racing, but I think it’s a sensible move. Franco Di Santo is no Lionel Messi, but get this: he’s a good young player with real potential. No, he’s no Radamel Falcao, but at a club like Liverpool, he has every chance of adapting quickly and proving he can make it at a top club.

He’s never really had a proper chance to prove his worth at Wigan, as they are always embroiled in a relegation battle. From what we’ve seen, however, we know that he’s an extremely hard working youngster, with plenty of pace and genuine goal-threat. I think he’d be a smart addition for a cash-strapped Liverpool side.

Reds fans simply need to realize that they’re not in the market for the players that Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea are interested in. They may not even be rivaling the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal any more. It’s a sad situation, but Liverpool need to re-build.

With that in mind, Franco Di Santo may not be a bad place to start.

What’s your take? Should Liverpool be in the market for Wigan’s Franco Di Santo?

for god’s sake, please stay away from Liverpool Di Santo!!10 goals in 80 appearances for Wigan??is this the player we need??would rather have Carroll back than getting this Di Santo at Anfield.i am 100% behind Rodgers,i support him and like his summer signings (although most people criticise the likes of Allen,Borini…etc) and also support him to sign the likes of Sturridge,Ince and Butland we’re linked in the January transfer window, but Di Santo??no f*cking way,he’s a mid table striker at best,we should be aiming higher.

    Reina
    Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique
    Lucas Allen
    Sturridge Gerrard Sterling
    Suarez

Bench:Butland Coates Henderson Sahin Shelvey Assaidi Borini

Agree, Di Santo is average at best. I’d bring in Sturbridge for sure…….and I know this will cause controversy….but bring in Butland, and use Reina as bait for Walcott. Our need for a player like Walcott far outways our need for Reina. I love Pepe but let’s be honest, he’s not been at his best for 2years now and long term I think Butland would be a great keeper. Good result 2day, lets keep going lads and strengthen in Jan. Y.N.W.A. JTH96
