Thing’s really seem to be coming to a head with Demba Ba and his position at Newcastle. The Senegalise striker seems to enjoy giving the occasional tell-all interview, where he’s more than happy to bat his eyelashes at whatever club happens to be interested at that very moment.

Of course, it’s put Alan Pardew and Newcastle United in a rather precarious position. He’s an important player for them and their main source of goals at the moment, but just about everybody and their dog knows about his £7.5m release clause.

With him flirting with other clubs (do you recall when he said he ‘dreams’ of a move to Arsenal) and his availability at a bargain price, it looks like the Magpies are going to struggle to keep hold of him.

Alan Pardew has done his level best. He recently told the Press: “Really and truly this window is the key, I think, because if Demba goes in this window, it will cause us a problem.

I think he will stay, but there’s a possibility he could go because of the clause that’s still in force. In the summer, I won’t let it run until the summer. I’ll do something about it. We will either move Demba on or we will secure him in the summer.”

It boils down to this: Pardew doesn’t want to lose Demba Ba this January, when he won’t have time to fix the gap he’ll create in the Newcastle squad. The overall goal will be to tie him down with a new contract, but that may not be easy to achieve at this point, without throwing a significant portion of money his way.

Newcastle may have to cut their losses on Ba and except that there will be plenty of clubs looking to trigger his release clause. As the Daily Mail note, Arsenal have been linked to the Newcastle forward on numerous occasions. And wouldn’t he be a perfect fit at the Emirates?

Arsenal are lacking a proper goal-threat upfront and Ba is a natural goal-scorer (11 goals already this season and he doesn’t look like slowing down). He’s also more sprightly than Olivier Giroud and takes up intelligent positions. If needs be, he can also play out on the wings.

With that in mind, there’s every chance that Wenger will increase Pardew’s misery this January by snapping up Ba – and it’s hard to argue with the logic of it.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal be in the market for Demba Ba?
