Emmanuel Frimpong on the move – but should he come back?

Emmanuel Frimpong is set to re-join Wolves on loan next week after being given the opportunity to get some first team experience under his belt by Arsene Wenger. The 20 year old Ghanaian midfielder has been at Arsenal since 2001 and has been continuously stressing his loyalty to the club despite the imminent move.

The youngster has taken to social medium, Twitter, to express his feelings about the move saying ‘subject to rumours am not leaving afc I am positive of going on loan this week which am really excited about and I am fully committed to afc  and am not in my last year or looking to be sold just to clear matters thank you and going on loan to get games and cum back to arsenal’. (More about the move from The Mirror).

But it does somehow seem that Frimpong will not play too many more games in an Arsenal shirt with Arsenal chiefs reportedly unimpressed with the development of the young prospect.

Frimpong did actually join Wolves last January when they were in the Premier League. The midfielder put in some impressive performances and the Molineux faithful immediately took to the charismatic player. Unfortunately, he ruptured a crucial ligament in his fifth game for the club in a 2-1 away win at QPR, ruling him out for the rest of the season and seeing him return to Arsenal.

However, during his five appearances Frimpong made a very good impression showing his true capabilities and proving that he should be a first team player. Unluckily for him though, Arsenal have one of the best midfields in the world with Santi Cazorla, Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere – meaning it is very hard to get a game.

If this deal does in fact go through it will be a fantastic bit of business by Wolves and manager Solbakken. Wolves have been crying out this year for a player with some tenacity – a game changer, and Frimpong may be that player. He showed in his last spell that he is both committed and talented and may be just what struggling Wolves are looking for. Furthermore, the Wolves fans will be very happy with this loan signing too, and have already taken to Twitter to wish the Gunner luck and ‘beg’ him to come back to Molineux.

No doubt this will be a good move for all parties involved. Arsenal do not need Frimpong at the moment as they have strength in depth in central midfield, and the loan move may pay dividends in the future with Frimpong getting some first team action. Wolves will benefit massively as they are lacking in strength in depth and missing some crucial players in that position.

Frimpong himself will also benefit as there is nothing like getting on the pitch and playing. Training can only do so much and if he wants to further his career then he has no choice but to move on, even if it is only on loan for a short period.

I for one hope that he comes to us – but – I would go further and see if we could possibly sign him up full time – him and Tongo in midfield!

  • I couldn’t agree more johnwolf, he would be a fantastic acquisition for Wolves.

As an avid Wolves fan I have been to many games this season and I think Frimpong is just the kind of player we need to really rejuvenate our team. He has the passion, commitment and quality to do well for us in both the Championship and Premier League.

In addition to what you said, I feel that a 4-3-3 formation would suit Wolves this season, and when O’Hara makes his long-awaited return I would like to see (hopefully) Doumbia, Frimpong and O’hara as the middle three.

I would welcome him back at Wolves either on loan or hopefully permanent,he showed class and could become a top duo alongside Tongo. We need him.
