It’s amazing, that thus far in his career, Dutch ace Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has managed to completely avoid the Premier League. The 29-year-old is a natural goal-scorer who has proved his ability at every club he’s been to and continues to score with ease. But as he’s approaching 30, the next signing he makes could be his last. Could we see him play in the Premier League yet?

Let’s take a quick look at his goal scoring record. Last season he scored an incredible 48 goals in 47 appearances. This year he’s already grabbed four goals. He just can’t be stopped when he’s bearing down on goal. In total, throughout his career he’s put in 384 appearances and scored 252 goals – an absolutely sensational return. Whoever gets their hands on the Dutchman can consider themselves to be very lucky.

He looks like a player who has the mentality and physicality to make it in the Premier League. What’s more, that natural goal-scoring ability isn’t something that comes and goes (even as the years continue to pile up!). He’d be the perfect signing for a club that needs a new striker (like Liverpool).

But it’s Arsenal who talkSPORT have linked Huntelaar too. And what a great fit he’d make there. Olivier Giroud is struggling to make an impact (I mean really, a goal in the Capital One Cup counts for very little, especially when your spurning massive opportunities on a weekly basis). Whilst Gervinho has looked pretty handy, Arsenal have very few other options, especially considering Wenger seems to favour playing Podolski out wide.

Throughout his career, Huntelaar and Podolski have demonstrated similar levels of goal-scoring prowess. I think those two players together, leading the Gunner’s attack, could be a real force. And who better to replace Robin Van Persie than another Dutchman?

Huntelaar will be out of contract at the end of the season and according to talkSPORT, it’s unlikely he’ll agree new terms with Schalke. That means the Gunners could either grab him for cheap this January, or wait until the summer and attempt to pick him up as a free signing. Either way, given the Dutchman’s ability, Arsene Wenger would be picking up a bargain and bolstering an area of the squad that needs a stern re-evaluation. Now that seems like a win-win to me.

What’s your take? Would Klaas-Jan Huntelaar be a smart addition at the Emirates?
