There’s just no telling how important Yaya Toure has been for Manchester City. His physicality, athleticism and grace have been a wonder to behold in the Premier League. His long striding runs forward are almost impossible to disrupt and his ability to contribute both offensively and defensively is almost unprecedented.

It’s fair to say that he’d be a massive loss for Manchester City should he decide to move on.

Manchester City seem to have an endless supply of cash, so they’ve never really had to worry about potentially losing a player. Whenever a player gets uncertain about their role in the team, they merely have to look down at their paycheck before putting those thoughts to bed.

When it comes to Yaya Toure, however, you feel things may be different. Whilst he impressed in La Liga, it’s since he arrived in the Premier League that he really seems to have blossomed. I’d argue that’s because he’s ideally suited to English football. He’s big, he’s powerful and he’s not afraid to get stuck in. This, crossed with his general footballing brilliance, makes him stand out in a top Manchester City side.

So it’s little wonder that Roman Abramovich is said to be interested in bringing him to Chelsea. According to the Daily Star, he’s ready to offer Yaya a staggering £300k-a-week salary package. That’s not too shabby!

According to the player’s agent, the 29-year-old midfielder is ready for a new challenge: “The player gave everything he could for City and now needs a new motivation.”

I’m sure that he’d love his new challenge to be working out how to spend £300k-a-week. That’s an absolutely outrageous sum and I’m sure Yaya Toure would find it hard to turn town.

Whilst I doubt Manchester City will want to sell their best player to one of their biggest rivals, they will no doubt have listened to his agents comments and be keen to figure out a way of either:

  • Keeping Yaya at the club.
  • Or, getting the most money they can for his sale.

Chelsea are probably the only club in world football who have enough money to tempt Manchester City to sell and enough prospects in world football to tempt Yaya to sell. So yes, this seems like an unlikely transfer – but perhaps it’s not as bizarre as we might think.

What’s your take? Could Chelsea pull off this super signing?

Where have you dragged this one from Cloke, the Sun? You’re a laughing stock, deliver some real articles and people might take you seriously, you and me both know that there is quite simply no chance whatsoever of Toure moving to Chelsea.
