Why Tottenham should provide the £20m exit route for this star:

Another day, another disappointment for Tottenham. Following an opening day defeat to Newcastle, Andre Villas-Boas’ side could only manage a 1-1 draw with West Brom (though it was the side that took Liverpool apart 3-0). The last minute equaliser hurt, no doubt, but it’s also further evidence that Tottenham have plenty of work to do in the transfer market.

Emmanuel Adebayor was a sensible addition, but he alone is not enough. There have been some signs that Spurs are looking to make further additions. According to the Daily Mail, Andre Villas-Boas is looking to bolster his forward options by signing Willian from Shakhtar Donetsk.

Well, there’s clearly something in the Mail’s claims, as the player in question has spoken about his disappointment with how his club has handled the situation:

“I have a proposal, but it is complicated because the board. Here are many players in the same position, most Brazilian. They buy and do not let go,’ said Willian. That’s the problem. Everyone knows that I want out, I’m here for five years, won many titles, so I hope you respect my will. I do not regret coming here, but this situation has been happening, with Chelsea trying to get me in January and now Tottenham, we start to rethink.”

It’s clear that the player wants out, but what the club wants is an entirely different matter. Whether they’re trying to keep hold of Willian or merely to eek out more money from Spurs, it’s a little disappointing for the player who just wants to start a new chapter in his career.

He sounds pretty unhappy and I hope Spurs can offer him an exit route.

Questions remain as to where he’d play should Tottenham complete the move. He can play as either a striker or a winger. Spurs arguably have enough down the flanks, so there’s a good chance he’d play as a forward. His flexibility would no doubt be an asset, however.

I have to say, I’m not quite sure that the £20m price-tag is justified, but there’s no doubting his talent or that he’d significantly improve this Tottenham side. There’s clearly work to be done on the negotiation front, so let’s hope that Villas-Boas can pull it off.

What’s your take? Would you like to see Willian at White Hart Lane next season?

Its out of AVB’s hands now… its completely up to Levy and co to sort this out..

This guy sounds good, but I would rather Moutinho and a world class striker (Damaio or Llorente or even Dempsey I’d were going cheaper) he’s not a playmaker, and we don’t need to spend £20m on backup for bale and Lennon. If we wanted backup, we would have taken Hoillet for about £5m earlier in the summer. Levy will offer at most £15m, and if he gets him for that fair play, but not £20m

Yes there’s work to be done but from wat I’ve seen of the team on the pitch we’re not far away from a really good side. The fact that we appear to be particularly averse to the opposition goal is the problem. We can’t be expected to over run teams the whole game, so we need goals when we are on top. They’ll hopefully come from Ade and whoever else we bring in, which will then giv us the buffer, and instill the confidence needed to defend a lead.
I have been slightly critical of DL of late although that criticism is hardly based on any real knowledge of wats goin on behind the scenes. Rather, it is the frustration, and at times panic of a fan who has begun to feel we are a genuinely good good side. I can’t help but believe. If the last few days are a sign then I get the feeling DL will prove all us knowledgable directors, managers, and armchair specialists wrong.
Well that’s wat I hope will happen.
    COYS!!!!!

I went of on one there. William is obviously one of those players we’ve bn looking at and it does appear that everyone has bn waiting on the Modric to Real thing to go through. Its only normal that clubs want there moneys worth for players and that buying clubs want to get them as cheaply as possible. It’s just frustrating to watch.
