Why Liverpool should target this £20m ace, regardless of Andy Carroll’s future:

Liverpool’s main problem last season, for all their slick, possession football, was their inability to stick the ball in the net. Andy Carroll looked like a totally bewildered individual, whilst Suarez seems to hit the post more than he does the back of the net. They’re both good players, but for one reason or another, aren’t reliable goal threats. Most fans thought that this would be the area that Liverpool looked to strengthen in the summer.

Whilst the arrival of Fabio Borini was a good start, a 21-year-old with limited Premier League experience just isn’t enough to pin a season on. Though Brendan Rodgers has been looking to whip the Reds’ midfield into shape with signings like Joe Allen and Nuri Sahin, you can’t help but feel that there’s more work to be done in forward positions.

Which brings me to the Daily Mail’s claims that Liverpool could bring in Chelsea’s Daniel Sturridge, but only if Andy Carroll leaves before the transfer window slams shut. I have to say, I’m a little surprised that any such deal depends on Andy Carroll’s future. Whether or not the pony-tailed on stays or not, Liverpool need somebody who can provide goals. Daniel Sturridge may well be that man.

According to the Mail, Liverpool will need ‘around £20m’ if they’re to persuade Chelsea to sell. This may well be because the Blues themselves don’t have a plethora of forward options and because young British talent is at a premium at the moment. So, no, he wouldn’t come cheap, but he certainly has the ability to improve Brendan Rodger’s squad.

At 22-years-old, Sturridge has his entire future ahead of him. He’s clearly not happy sitting on the bench at Chelsea and may well fancy his chances at a club like Liverpool who a genuine need for a striker. Sturridge has pace, ability and an eye for goal. He hasn’t been at his best over the last half-season or so, but he hasn’t been deployed properly by Chelsea. Liverpool would be able to unlock all his potential.

It’s about time Liverpool had a natural finisher at the club. If they have to pay for the privilege, then so be it. Sturridge would be an excellent addition and I can’t help but hope that Rodger’s attempts to pull of this signing.

What’s your take? Would Sturridge be a good addition at the Emirates?

impossible! Henry doesn’t want to spend anymore n Studridge is a bit too “selfish” to play passing game…he won’t fit…though he is GOOD!

    • Jerak84 says:

It’s not like he is incapable of making assists… And who cares if players are selfish in front of the box, we’re not suppose to pass the ball into the back of the net. A striker that doesn’t try to score when in range is not a 20+ goal a season striker!

    Negredo or Lloriente

…and neither will come to Liverpool, unfortunately. We are a mid-table team with no future (immediate future).

We are without Champions League football, and Negredo and Llorente, and other like-minded players will not come to us for that reason.

Sturridge is a likely lad, who can do a job for us. So be realistic.
