All this nonsense regarding Lucas Moura seems to have made everybody forget that Manchester United need to sign a striker this summer. Seriously: it seems to be all we’re talking about. A change of perspective is needed. Moura isn’t the be all and end all.

With Michael Owen released into pasture, left to fend on his own in the Premier League wilderness and Dimitar Berbatov’s future uncertain, it’s likely that Sir Alex Ferguson is weighing up his options. He may well look at Manchester City’s star studded line-up of strikers and feel a little envious. It’s time to act!

According to the Daily Mail, United have told Borussia Dortmund that they’re willing to pay £12m for Robert Lewandowski. But get this: they want to finalise the transfer in a year’s time, allowing BVB to hold on to their star man for another season.

Whilst that would be perfect for the Bundesliga side, I’m not sure it’s a great deal for Manchester United. The Polish forward only has a single year left on his contract and would be allowed to leave on a free next summer.

It’s thus up to Dortmund to sell him now, or deal with the consequences in January. There shouldn’t really be any middle-ground here.

Besides, wouldn’t such a deal ignore the fact that United need a striker to help them compete this season. Why strike a deal for a player who you wouldn’t be able to use for a year?

Who know what could happen in the space of a year. Maybe Sir Alex will find a striker he prefers more. Maybe Lewandowski will completely lose his mojo, or pick up a serious injury. The terms of this deal would have to be extremely well thought out to avoid these complexities.

It’s my personal hope that Dortmund can be persuaded to part with their leading man a year early. We’ve all seen how well he’s done over the last couple of seasons. He’s ice-cool in front of goal, and extremely confident will the ball at his feet. At 23-years-old he’s only going to get better and his esteem around Europe is only going to grow.

The time’s right for Manchester United to strike and wrap up the deal. I just hope that the Red Devil’s don’t have to wait a year to start reaping the benefits.

What’s your take? Can United afford to wait?

Utter bulls**t, united don’t need any forwards, all the talk of this striker and the llorente posts I keep seeing, and I have absolutely no idea why? United don’t need any strikers, united need midfielders or at least one midfielder, a player that will link up defence to attack, that isn’t afraid to get stuck in, and I’m not saying a mf in the shape of Roy Keane or Paul scholes, they were and in some cases still are class acts but it is time for a new name, a new midfielder that will dominate that united midfield. To be honest, although im glad to see REPORTS (nothing’s finalised untill I see the pic of him in a united shirt) of SAF finally opening the bank to sign moura and he looks an exciting prospect. Do we really need another winger at this time? With Valencia, nani and young, positions are going to be tight, not to mention the new signing of kagawa

Sorry premature post lol … Who can operate from wing or just behind the strikers ( again another reason why we don’t need another striker). It really puzzles me where all these publishers r getting they’re ideas from! … Anyway I’ve babbled on enough, no strikers needed just 1 or 2 quality midfielders 🙂 lol UNITED TILL I DIE!!

12 Million rated?!? By who!? His club have said he is not for sale at any price but all rumours point to a valuation in the high 20s. This has been widely reported for months. The original story broke before the season even ended with United rumoured to be bidding 50 million for Kagawa, Lewandowski AND Mats Hummels. How do these reporters not get fired? If I made so many mistakes in my job I would be looking for a new one.
