Nothing more than a sick transfer joke for Tottenham?

Maroaune Chamakh has to lead the Gunners in Van Persie's absenceTottenham fans: imagine the most outrageous and outlandish transfer rumour you can. If it didn’t involve Arsenal’s forgotten striker Marouane Chamakh making a loan move to White Hart Lane, you weren’t trying hard enough. The fact that this rumour is out there in reputable publications like The Mirror must put Tottenham fans at a certain level of unease.

It seems totally unbelievable. It seems to suggest a club that is perennially willing to stay in the shadow of their North London rivals. After all, how can Tottenham overtake Arsenal in the Premier League, if they’re content to snap up their deadwood? It happened before with Gallas (though the club did get a couple of good years out of him) but it should not happen with Chamakh.

Let’s not forget. The Moroccan striker didn’t even get a place on Arsenal’s bench during the Gunner’s Saturday fixture against Sunderland. They’ve sold Robin Van Persie and they still don’t have space for him in the squad. That’s hardly a ringing endorsement of the player.

Besides, anybody who saw him play last season (in the rare opportunities that he got) will attest to the fact that he’s completely bereft of confidence. When he receives the ball, it’s always with his back to goal and he just doesn’t seem to know what to do with it. He’s better at linking up with the midfield than scoring and as a result, his importance to Arsenal has slipped significantly.

Tottenham finally sealing a deal for Emmanuel Adebayor may well put the Chamakh rumours to bed. Conversely, it could make the clamour louder. After all, the rumours speak of a ‘loan deal’. Given that Spurs have tied up a deal for a leading man, they may now be seeking a player who can come off the bench and have an impact. A player who would be below Emmanuel Adebayor and Jermaine Defoe. Somebody willing to bide his time and wait for his opportunity. A Marouane Chamakh type.

Whilst that may be the case, there would be no countenancing this deal. It may sound harsh, but he just doesn’t have the talent to make it at White Hart Lane. It takes a special player to cross the North London divide and Chamakh isn’t that man.

What’s your take? Would Chamakh be a good addition for Tottenham? Or if this just another nonsense rumour?

Bit late on this, it’s already been denied by Spurs. Just column inches needing to be filled by lazy journalists.

  • Bo says:

It’s a top class player. Spurs will do well to secure him for £15m. It would be very sad to see him go to Spurs. Let’s hope they don’t read this message. Baahaa

John Cross started the Chamakh story – he loves Arsenal hates Spurs – enough said

  • Peter says:

I like Chamakh, that is why I want him to leave, so he can score 20+ a season and prove everyone wrong.

Is it a coincidence, that he, arshavin and park chu young all don’t start for arsenal, yet continue to score for their national teams?

I heard Arsenal wanted Bentley in exchange but it didnt look like coming off as they couldnt afford his wages?

Lol. You seriously took time out of your life to write this? In what way would any club want chamack? Even a club in our striker position it would be a terrible buy.

  • Barndoor Bendtner says:

Chamakh is the perfect fit for Spurs.

Championship quality at best. Get him off the books for a couple of Mil and we’re all happy.

This story lost any sense of credibility when you put “reputable” and “The Mirror” in the same sentence.

  • Hoddle_legend says:

Did you not see Chamakh play when he first arrived in England? He would be one of the better players on our squad, though probably still starting behind Adebayor.

  • Lord Bokka says:

Never mind all that pony waiting for Damaio , willian , and moutihno aaaaaaaahhhhhhh yeahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!! COYS

  • Benjamin says:

Also great job on the photoshop. Chamakh must be the first striker in the premier league with hands bigger than his head. Perhaps he might be the answer to their goalkeeping troubles?
