Liverpool interested in £23.8m ace – and he’d make a great fit in their squad:

I’m sure if you’d asked Liverpool fans what their top priority was this summer, they’d tell you that it was to sign a striker and to sort out their midfield. Well, they’ve brought in Fabio Borini, but they’ve put Andy Carroll out to pasture and seem to be attempting to break ties with him. That’s not the kind of progress most fans were expecting. Liverpool are also looking to tie up a deal for Joe Allen. He should add a little more quality to their midfield and help get their creativity flowing once more. (Source: Daily Mail)

I doubt any Liverpool fans would have told you that they’re desperately seeking the addition of a full-back this summer. After all, it’s in the final third that the Reds so often found themselves lacking. The likes of Glen Johnson and Jose Enrique generally acquitted themselves well, managing to support Liverpool’s forward-play whilst defending nicely where necessary.

So I wonder what fans make of Liverpool’s purported interest in Porto’s ace full-back Alvaro Pereira? (Source: Sky Sports). He’s a quality player, no doubt – the kind of player that fans love to see their club linked to, but his position is not one that’s a priority for Liverpool. Is it time to get excited or frustrated?

Frustration may arise from the fact that he wouldn’t come cheap. He’s under contract with Porto until Summer 2016 and has a £23.8m price-tag. That’s a significant sum of money for a club like Liverpool. After their poor showing in the transfer market last summer, Brendan Rodgers must surely be looking to make sensible, cost-effective signings this time round.

But if he did sign for Liverpool (big ‘but’ at the moment) there’d be plenty of reason to get excited. At 26-years-old he’s just about to enter his peak. He’s an incredibly confident, agile and dynamic player. He’s known for being direct and trying to force the play. He loves to catch defenders on the back-foot and try and beat his man.

Best of all, he’s versatile. Whilst he’s played numerous times as a full-back for Porto, he’s also been deployed on some occasions as an out-and-out winger. Perhaps this is why Liverpool are thought to be interested. He’s also good buddies with Luis Suarez and stuck up for him during the Racism debacle (though perhaps his comments were a little much!). That could play in Liverpool’s favour.

The player’s agent, Flavio Perchman has made it clear that he could leave Porto this summer: “I spoke with Alvaro last week and he is calm. We are waiting to find out if there is any offer. We think everything will go well and that he can leave the club, but right now we do not have any concrete offer”.

I’d love to see Liverpool attempt to pull off this signing. It may not seem like a good fit at first, but it’s a signing that would improve the squad significantly and act as a signal of intent. So, isn’t that ideal?

I believe Bucks covering his bases here with Jamies imminent step into coaching and Man City knocking at the door with a £20 mil £100k a week deal for Agger. only 2 years on his current deal left and honestly given our dealings so far this summer cannot see us being held to ransom to raise his wages to match. Will Buck use this as an opportunity to grab Adam Johnson in a player plus cash deal?

20mill for agger…. thats tempting agger is a great player but he has too many injuries we could get a player or 2 with that and have coates and skrtel at CB we will have carragher and kelly who can cover there….. im not sure on allen yes his a good player but we have ALOT of CM i would player hendo, gerrard and lucas and have suso, jonjo, adam and spearing as back up….. yes hendo didnt have the best of season last time round but he was mostly played out of postiton and think just like carroll both need to be given the chance to prove themselfs…. ramirez and a.johnson would be great signings for us…. with rodgers looking at some loans as well which is only a good thing as there are players like david villa(if barca get neymar),kaka,Afellay and tello availible on loan it could turn out not to be such a bad summer after all

Agree Johnson plus cash for Agger and buy Ramirez would be great but like all ways!
    Asking for far to much

  • Red$4Eva says:

LFC simply dont have that kind of wad. Anyways LFC dont wanna run the risk of becoming Uruguay B with Suarez, Coates talk of Gaston Ramirez and now Periera. For my money Quaresma, Affelay, Vargas and Dempsey give us enough attacking clout to cake walk fourth and total less than 20mil for all four. Though seen a montage of Gaston Ramirez on You Tube and he’s class. Money is definately gonna be an issue though. if we can lose sigurdson to the likes of spurs theres no end of admirers for this kid or G. Ramirez.
