Is this £15.7m man the right addition to Arsenal’s squad?

So the football’s finally back and we’ve had a chance to get a preliminary look at the teams who will be duking it out this season. For Arsenal fans, it was their first chance to see new signings Lukas Podolski, Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla. Whilst they impressed, it was somewhat clear from the overall flow of the game against Southampton, that they’d need to make further additions this summer if they have any interest in competing for the Premier League title this season.

This is particularly true given that both Robin Van Persie and Alex Song have flown the coup. Whilst RVP’s absence is somewhat dealt with by the Gunner’s two new strikers, Song’s absence leaves Arsenal with a pressing need for a defensive midfielder.

So could their interest turn back to perennial summer transfer target, Yann M’Vila. According to French source RMC, things could be about to heat up on that front. Rennes sporting director Pierre Dreossi has claimed that when it comes to his star midfielder:

“We have three offers for the moment”.

When questioned about Arsenal’s interest he responded: “Arsenal? Maybe, you’ll have to call Arsene. But when Song leaves, we must say that Arsenal will reinforce that post. We retain our price of €20m (£15.7m). And I think it will be done by the end of this week or the beginning of next.”

He’s clearly aware of the situation at the Emirates and aware of the fact that the Gunners suddenly have a need to bolster this position. But at £15.7m, he won’t come cheap. With fans aware that Arsenal look to have an opportunity to sign Real Madrid’s forgotten man Nuri Sahin on loan (thus saving a heap of cash) the question has no doubt arisen as to who would be a better fit.

The Guardian has claimed that Arsenal are attempting to agree a deal that would include an option to permanently buy the Turkish International at the end of the loan deal. Trouble seems to have arisen because of Real Madrid’s desire to deny Arsenal this.

It’s this difficulty that makes Yann M’Vila a more attractive option. Sahin would be a temporary solution to a problem Arsenal don’t really have. After all, Sahin’s playing style is more akin to Santi Cazorla’s than Alex Song’s. M’Vila has the rugged, uncompromising physical and athletic ability to play as a defensive midfielder for Arsenal. He also has the ability to move the ball about quickly and accurately, just as Arsene Wenger likes. So for my money, he’d be the perfect addition to Arsenal’s squad.

What’s your take? Would Yann M’Vila be the perfect addition at the Emirates?

And for my money too. He’s been playing regularly unlike Sahin who has been warming Real Madrid’s back waters. And if Sahin came and had a good loan spell, you can bet Real would not sell. Mourinho will be the last to his old for a favour.

Yann MVilla will be perfect ‘cog’ in the Arsenal Mid/Defence

  • Jack seamy says:

  • debislyv says:

arsenal played sunderland not Southampton. Back to the topic, i think m’villa will be a perfect fit for our d/m position, sahin is good but being available for a limited time is not the best, we need a player which we can build the team around for years to come without fear of doing a ‘song’ esque. M’villa is the right choice, arsene should get him at all cost

  • ne says:

In term of passing he is good, but i’m curios about his pace..

  • stevestarry says:

M’villa is the perfect man Arsenal need now, if realy we are challenging for any thing this season, Asene Wenger need to replace Song with M’villa.

  • Mukun21 says:

AW needs to stop pussy footing around and reinforce Song’s position. At present you have to view Diaby, Wilshere & Rosicky as squad players who can not be relied on to carry us through. We also need a versatile defender and possibly a striker (not urgent).

  • Jetsenal says:

M’vila is the right man,let mourihno go to hell
