If Agger goes, this £10m star is the man to replace him at Liverpool:

What the future holds for Liverpool’s Daniel Agger is anybody’s guess. The full-time centre-back and part time injury magnet has made a name for himself as one of the Premier League’s best defenders. His performances have won over the fans. The only thing to be held against him is his absurd injury record and this may be the reason Brendan Rodgers is considering letting him move on this summer.

It’d be a shame, especially after he got ‘YNWA’ tattooed onto his fingers, but maybe it’s the best possible move for the club. They’ll want to make sure, however, that they have a few candidates lined up to replace him and that they’ve been looking at the right players.

The Metro suggests that Brendan Rodgers may use the money he earns through selling Agger to finance a move for Atletico Madrid’s centre-back Diego Godin.  The Uruguayan has garnered quite a name for himself over the last few seasons and could well be available for just £10m.

Furthermore, it’s claimed that Rodgers has already been in touch with Atletico’s top brass to discuss a potential deal subject to Agger’s future being resolved. So, should the great Dane opt to move on, would Godin be a good replacement?

The Metro note that he’s ‘tall, commanding but also technically good… similar to Agger’ and I think there’s some truth to this statement. He’s your quintessential ball playing centre-back. You get the feeling he’s a frustrated central midfielder. He’s extremely composed on the ball, loves to use his pace wherever possible and is always trying an attack in motion.

Whilst Agger doesn’t have quite the same attitude, they’re two players of a similar build who share similar attributes. As a like for like replacement, you could do a lot worse.

There’s the Uruguay connection too. Liverpool have spent the last two or so years reaching out to that part of South America and coming up with some real finds. Godin currently has 56 caps for Uruguay and comes with bags of experience. Sounds good to me!

It’s also worth remembering that cash-strapped Liverpool would make a profit were they to replace Agger with Godin (presuming they can pick him up for around £10m). With that in mind, maybe it would be a sensible move? The Red’s wouldn’t be missing out in terms of quality, but they would have a little more cash to splash in other areas of their squad.

What’s your take, should Liverpool look towards Godin?
