Agger’s uncertain future: Is Brendan Rodgers capable of bringing in anyone he hasn’t worked with before?

The rumour mill is rife with speculation that Daniel Agger may be sold by The Reds to either Manchester City or Real Madrid to help finance further transfers.

A suggestion Agger himself believes will be taken out of his new boss’ hands if the right offer is made to the board, when asked by Sporten.dk if Rodgers wants to sell him, Agger replied, ‘No, Absolutely not. But I do not think it is his call to make.’

It’s been suggested that Man City are interested in Agger and have already had an offer of £16m rebuffed as Liverpool hold out for over £20m. But the real question isn’t whether or not Agger leaves, instead, it has to be, who will be his replacement?

It’s clear the Liverpool Board are more than prepared to back their man in the transfer market, but is Rodgers capable of attracting a suitable replacement?

Thus far, Rodgers has spent nearly £30m bringing in Fabio Borini from Roma and Joe Allen from Swansea, both of these players demonstrate real potential and have age on their side, but the more definitive reason for bringing them in is that Rodgers has worked with them extensively in the past.

But neither of these players has proved themselves consistently in the Premier League and whilst this is clearly a move in the step of a new era at Anfield it still displays a distinct lack of ability by Rodgers to attract big name players.

The most worrying part of this for Liverpool fans is surely the speculation that Rodgers may be lining up a move for Ashley Williams if the Agger deal does go through. (Source: The Mirror)

Ashley Williams just is not good enough to replace Daniel Agger, as he is considered one of Europe’s best Centre Backs at the moment. I don’t see the same potential in Ashley Williams that has been professed about the talent of Allen, considered to be Swansea’s midfield ball player last season.

If Joe Allen can live up to his potential he may prove a justified acquisition, and with Brendan Rodgers already declaring, Andy Carroll has no place in his system. Borini is destined to get game time, but Liverpool fans are bound to become quickly disenchanted if their beloved Defensive General is sold and replaced by Ashley Williams.

The hope has to be that Rodgers’ can prove his theory; that the loan market can uncover some real talent, and enable Liverpool bring in the likes of Sahin and Tello (Source: Daily Mail).

Losing 1 – o half time away AGAIN – Sounds so familiar and the horrible part is that we wont be getting back into this game either – Should not be like this

It continues to scream at us that we do NOT have the improvement in strike force that has been so obvious for nearly a year now. I don’t think we will get it either.WBA play some nice stuff perhaps we can learn a little from them?

  • chesterton says:

Is Allen actually on the field? Whilst Rodgers is “busy” today can someone nip out without him noticing and buy a striker ( someone he has NOT played with before) and sneak him into the dressing room? At this rate we should be about 15th come Xmas.
