Could Juventus be a force in next season’s Champions League?

|

Whatever the outcome on Sunday, Italy have had an excellent Euro 2012. They progressed from a tough group, out-classed England and defeated the much-fancied Germans – and done so by playing attractive, counter-attacking football.

One of the major talking points from their campaign has been the large Juventus contingent in the squad – seven of the 23 man squad ply their trade with the Old Lady of Turin. Amongst this seven are some integral players – Gianluigi Buffon, Giorgio Chiellini and Andrea Pirlo all play a major part for both Italy and Juventus.

My point is, as this Italian side has done so well by progressing to the final of this summer’s European Championships, could Juve be a force in next season’s UEFA Champions League – the club equivalent of the Euro’s?

The Bianconeri have not competed in Europe’s top club competition since 2005/06 – the year of the infamous match-fixing scandal which demoted Juventus to Serie B and stripped the famous club of two league titles.

Having won the Serie A last season (dethroning old rivals AC Milan in the process) they have now qualified for next season’s European Cup – and I believe that they could be a force in it.

Cesar Prandelli models his Italy side on the championship winning Juve – relatively simple when you have so many world-class footballers playing for both teams. The goals are guarded by one of the genuinely great goalkeepers Gigi Buffon. The backline is marshalled by a world class defender Giorgio Chiellini and of course – the whole side is orchestrated by veteran playmaker Andrea Pirlo.

Of course, there is more to add for this Juve team. They have been linked with the likes of Robin van Persie this summer – evidence of the weight their name carries throughout the football world. A couple of additions to their already excellent squad would mean that they really could challenge for continental honours next season – sparkling a renaissance for Italian football.

What do you think? Could Juventus challenge the likes of Barcelona and Manchester City next season?

One technical error and all of a sudden I’m a terrible writer and this article is “crap”?

How is me making a small mistake in the logistic side of things equavilent to me knowing nothing about football? I was only 11 in 2008/09 so cut me a break.

Obviously you believe football knowledge is equivalent to learning off numbers is it?

What did you actually think of the article? Aside from two letters of a difference?

Besides that mistake this is a decent article given the subject dicsussed… I do agree that Juve will be a force for the coming five years both in italy and in europe… I have been a juve fan for more than twenty yrs and now again i can see the spirit of the old juve and this is what is going to set the difference for the team and not only the acquisitions they will make which look like they r going to be major ones.. Good luck in the next articles lad….
