Why it’s the best possible move for this Manchester United star:

|

A huge rumour has began to circulate suggesting that Park Ji-Sung is ready to sign for Queens Park Rangers for an initial payment of £2m (source: SKY) with extra instalments to bring the total to £5m (various sources) . The South Korean has played for Manchester United since 2005 and appears to be ready for a fresh challenge. R’s chairman Tony Fernandes posted on Twitter “Excellent stadium meeting. Wow. Looks great. Going to make big announcment. Hopefully see amit [Bhatia, Vice Chairman] in a few hours to brief him. Wow” Fernandes is also CEO/Director of Air Asia and it is believed the signing of Park will help gather support in Asia for QPR.

Park, 31, is a player that Sir Alex Ferguson has often turned to in big matches but has slowly lost his position in the team over the last year to the likes of Nani, Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young. Despite this Park is still a top quality player and would be a great signing for any Premier League club outside the top seven. With the option to play wide or in a more advanced central role, Park would easily fit into the QPR setup.

With a “big announcement” imminent, it is believed that Park Ji-Sung has agreed personal terms with the West London club and is attracted by their ambitious plans, including the building of a new stadium. All that is left is for paperwork to be completed and for the retired South Korean international to pass a medical at the clubs redeveloped training facilities before Mark Hughes, who is said to be impressed with Park, will have  his man.

This move suits the player and both clubs, for a start it means that Manchester United have no longer got to pay the wages of the thirty one year-old who played for them just seventeen times last season without selling him to a rival club. It also allows a player in the Manchester United youth set up to have the window of opportunity opened for them to break into the first squad, or gives the red devils extra spending money. It benefits QPR because they are able to show their supporters and rivals alike of their plans for the future as well as gaining extra support in Asia for the club. It also gives a talented footballer week-in-week-out football, something a player of Park’s skill deserves.

If QPR can complete this move than they will show that they are a force to be reckoned with as well as bringing in experience, something they need with the absence of Joey Barton, to surround youth.

Keep an eye on this because it could be the signing of the summer…

UPDATE: QPR have now confirmed that Park will join them on a two year deal. Manager Mark Hughes described it as ‘a real coup’ and ‘a huge signing for this [QPR] football club’.
