Victor Moses was one of the Premier League’s star players during the business end of last season. His performances lead to an inspiring fightback from lowly Wigan which found them end the season in 15th position, seven points clear of relegation. His displays have drawn lots of interest from clubs like Chelsea (Source: Daily Mail) and a move to Stamford Bridge seems to be gathering lots of momentum. But is now the right time for the 21-year old winger to make his big money move?
Deals like these can sometimes work a treat or they can fail miserably. Fabian Delph’s move to Aston Villa from Leeds is a prime example of why a transfer too soon can work against you. Delph was one of the countries hot properties and moved to Villa when he was just 19. To be fair, the young midfielder did suffer a setback when he tore his cruciate knee ligament which kept him out of the game for 8 months. However, his time at Villa hasn’t improved him as a player so far and he has found places in the starting eleven limited.Victor Moses needs to take note of this situation and weigh up his options.
Chelsea are reportedly interested in him and had a £4 million bid rejected after Dave Whelan labelled the offer “derisory”. This suggests that the transfer saga is not over. Moses should be aware of the vast interest in him and if he wants to improve as a footballer, he needs to look at the opportunities of gaining first team football at a big club like Chelsea.

The Blues are on a high after becoming European champions for the first time. They have already signed Belgium wonderkid Eden Hazard and seem to be on the brink of purchasing Porto forward Hulk. These signings are on top of the vast range of wide attacking options Roberto Di Matteo has at his disposal. His other options include: Juan Mata, Florent Malouda, Daniel Sturridge and Marko Marin. With this amount of firepower, it’s hard to see where Di Matteo would be able to fit Victor Moses in.
Moses also needs to consider which team plays to his strengths. He’s a big, strong winger with bags of pace and has the ability to cause problems for any defence. Wigan tend to give him the pace to threaten defences and, at times, he seems isolated on the wings. However, his display against Arsenal on April 16th showed that he’s got a little something special about him. He terrorised an uncomfortable Arsenal defense who just didn’t know how to deal with him.
And yet he hasn’t been tested at the top level of the game. For the kind of prices that have been mooted by the Press he’d represent a bit of a gamble. Can’t Chelsea spend that money more sensibly? Shouldn’t Moses go to a club who can offer him regular first team football? Chelsea are in the process of buying up Europe’s best and brightest and Moses could get lost in the melee. The best move, for this youngster, at this time, may be to stay put, until he’s ready to make an Antonio Valencia like leap to first team football at a top club.
