Breaking news hit the footballing world on Monday, as Roberto Mancini has signed a new 5 year contract with Premier League champions Manchester City. This has completely cleared speculation of a possible move to manage the Russian National team. As a Manchester City fan myself, I am pleased for him as he brought us our first title for 44 years and has the highest win per cent of any other City manager by a country mile.

After a great season he now has the pressure of buying some more class players, and taking the title for a second season running. I personally think that if he can get the signing of Robin Van Persie from Arsenal then that will play a major part in winning the title. Many football fans may say that he hasn’t played a major part this season but I beg to differ. Whilst everyone was shouting abuse at Mario Balotelli he still had the faith to play him and, don’t forget, Balotelli was the man who set up the last gasp goal that won them the Championship and his 90th minute winning penalty against Tottenham which turned not only to win the game but to help win the EPL.

Mancini took over from Mark Hughes in 2009 and has had the toughest job of any of the Premier League managers. He has had to deal with top name players and gel them together, something the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and even Liverpool have failed to do over the past seasons. He dealt with the tantrums of Tevez against AC Milan very well and giving the captaincy to Vincent Kompany made a great improvement to the team.

Now teams are starting to turn their heads and take notice of a team capable of going far in the Champions League. The 6-1 humiliation of Man. U early on in the season gave signs that the power of Manchester was turning to sky blue. In Mancini’s press conference this afternoon he expressed his delight saying “I am delighted to be able to give all of my efforts to Manchester City for a further five years. The opportunity which exists to build on our recent success is enormous.” (Source: BBC)

The City Boss has got a lot more work to do with his team and I’m positive that some big money signings will help strengthen his squad and help pull away from rivals Man. U, Arsenal, Chelsea etc. With trophies already in the bag the sky is the limit and the trophy list can be endless.
