Do Celtic have anything to teach Rangers about ‘dignity’?

No thanks. It seems that there is some debate amongst Celtic fans who believe that their club should “hand back” the Scottish Cup they won in season 2005 while fielding the EBT funded Juninho. This they say would set an example to Rangers on how to behave with dignity. Isn’t that very nice of the Glasgow club and I am sure Dundee United, who they cheated out of the cup, well that’s if the same rules apply to Celtic as to Rangers, will welcome this decision.

Unfortunately for Celtic and their supporters this is not how it works. If Celtic did field an ineligible player in the league and Scottish Cup that season, the same thing that Rangers are accused of, then they should not be allowed to “hand it back”. They should be stripped of the trophy and kicked out the Scottish Cup this season, after all that’s the punishment for fielding an ineligible player.

Just ask Spartans who were booted out of the Scottish Cup after they fielded an ineligible player in the second round win over Culter in 2011. A three-man SFA judicial panel found the East of Scotland champs guilty of playing striker Keith McLeod without the player having been properly registered.

If sporting integrity is to be maintained then Celtic must be booted out of the Scottish Cup this season. As for the offer to hand back the trophy, in the words of the former Rangers striker Nacho Novo “No thanks”.

Do some research, Celtic have fully disclosed details about payments Juninho received via an EBT scheme. There was no tax evasion and no breach of Scottish Football regulations.
