Rangers, Duff, Phelps & Reasonable Suspicion

There has always been a hint of suspicion around the events at Rangers. There are too many unanswered questions; too many coincidences, too much shading between the main characters in this saga.  Before the police can stop and search a person (or the person’s car), the police have to have “reasonable suspicion” that the person is involved in some illegal activity. For example, a person driving a car may be stopped and searched if the car is weaving in traffic or if the driver goes through a red light, because this behaviour may suggest drunk driving.

Does the Rangers support now have reasonable suspicion to stop and question the administrators? Have Duff & Phelps weaved across too many lanes on this journey with Rangers, ignored too many red lights and crashed Rangers hope of survival into a wall? Are the signs there that D&Ps are not what they seem?

When D&P took over there were a few raised eyebrows about their role in Craig Whyte’s takeover. Surely it is only natural that the supporters are suspicious of D&P and who would blame them, every time a potential new owner arrives there seems to be a problem and the inevitable withdrawal occurs. Why did Bill Miller go through the process of becoming the preferred bidder, only to pull out his bid? Yanks go home doesn’t seem plausible and a quick look at the books, well what did he expect? It was almost as if the Bill Miler bid was an opposition play to block the Blue Knights. Just like in roller derby: trying to stall the opponent by using a blocking tactic.

One step forward, two steps back seems to be the strategy of D&P. Personally I feel that from the outset D&P have wanted anyone but the Blue Knights in place or anyone with Rangers best interests at heart.  Why is this: is it because a new regime based on Rangers people may dive deeper into this mess than D&P would like?

Should suspicion be put to one side, does it cloud the minds of the Rangers fans? Maybe so. Though perhaps the reason that Rangers support are suspicious of those who threaten to take over the club is the lack of information. D&P have been less than helpful in the communication stakes and through their actions have failed to distance themselves from the people that were involved in the takeover of Rangers.  And how and why did Rangers get into this mess is the question that will not go away. Suspicion will linger around Rangers until these questions are asked and more importantly answered.  Again I ask, is there reasonable suspicion to question the motives of D&P and whether they are they doing enough to safe guard the best interests of Rangers?

Duff and Phelps priority is to achieve the best deal for the creditors who have been ripped off. If that means selling Rangers assets that’s what will happen and looks likeliest to happen given the numbers that are being banded about. No sympathy for this selfish lot. Take your medicine and no more threats.
