It seems that a season of success for Fulham could result in them losing their two most influential players.  With Clint Dempsey set to depart this summer it is great credit to Martin Jol who has helped the American and also a certain Belgium international take their game to the next level.  Moussa Dembele could be on his way this summer to a bigger club with reported interest from United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle.

It’s no surprise that the 24 year old is attracting suitors from bigger sides as his performances this season have been nothing short of excellent.  Although Dembele has just 7 goals to his name in Fulham colours the attacking midfielder has been the perfect foil for Clint Dempsey who has enjoyed his best year notching up 23 goals.

Jol’s decision to play him as a midfielder has been the catalyst for his consistent form this season.  Dembele was initially bought as a striker from Az Alkmar and tried out their under the Mark Hughes regime.  However with Bobby Zamora and Andy Johnson both ahead of Dembele in the pecking order it wasn’t long before he found himself out the team.  With knowledge of his time in Holland Jol realise Dembele potential and decided to slot him into the team where ever possible.  He found the position just behind Dempsey and it has worked wonders as Dembele has represented a constant threat buzzing behind the front two.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s courting of Wesley Sneijder last summer is well documented and the failure that followed meant Paul Scholes was urged out of retirement.  Now though, with Scholes one year older, the need for a replacement has intensified.  Scholes won’t be able to play every game next season and with Darren Fletcher’s mystery illness persisting Ferguson is in desperate need of an intelligent play maker.

There are options out there but Dembele would be a relatively cheap option with experience in the English game.  The international is relatively young and seems to tick all the boxes.  Even at Old Trafford this year Dembele looked a threat whenever given the chance to run at the United defence.

Ferguson has a reputation for buying promising players, except for Bebe and Obertan, and would be sure to be looking at Dembele this summer.  The Belgium man has time on his side and his improvement in just one year alone has shown he has desire to learn and get to the level his talent deserves.
