Manchester United or Chelsea: What does the future hold for Luka Modric?

Chelsea’s dramatic penalty shoot-out victory against Bayern Munich sparked thousands of their loyal supporters into total delirium as Chelsea were crowned European Champions.  However, on the other side of London supporters of Tottenham Hotspur were plunged into deep depression as the reality of no football amongst Europe’s elite soon set in.  The implications of the failure would have begun to be realised and it’s the loss of their star players that could see Spurs’ demise.  Players such as Gareth Bale, Rafael Van Der Vart and Emmanuel Adebayor may not be seen again at White Hart Lane but it’s their little Croatian who is most likely to leave.

Luka Modric was involved in the transfer saga of the summer this time last year as the stubbornness of Redknapp and Levy ensured he would be spending another season at Spurs.  Chelsea were desperate to sign him – the last piece for Villas-Boas’ flawed jigsaw – and offered ludicrous sums of money.  Tottenham held out though despite Modric’s pleas to be allowed to leave, it seemed at the time as a case of ‘give us one more season then you can go’.

With that season up and no lure of Champions league football at Spurs the Croat is almost certain to leave but to whom?  Chelsea could come back in for him after last summer but that possibility may no longer be there.  They signed Raul Meireles on deadline day having given up on the Croat’s signature and it seems money could well be spent elsewhere; Eden Hazard has been mooted for example.

A switch across North London hasn’t been rumoured and moving to Arsenal would almost be unprecedented so that avenue appears closed.  Besides, Arsenal doesn’t really need Modric as their midfield is suitably stocked already.  With Alex Song impressing consistently and Arteta and Jack Wilshere to return there’s no need for a tight Arsene Wenger to splash out.

The only other two clubs to offer European football are those in Manchester.  The champions are unlikely to be in for Modric as they have an abundance of talent already at their disposal.  Instead, Manchester United – who was linked with Modric last year – could be the most likely destination.  The central midfield is a bit of a bare cupboard at Old Trafford with little else that Carrick and an ageing Paul Scholes.  It’s well documented that Ferguson is looking for that long term replacement for Scholes and Modric could represent it.

Modric could of course go abroad but a move to an England side seems to be more likely.  Of course, these are simply rumours but it does seem inevitable that Modric won’t be lining up in the white of Tottenham Hotspur next year.

This is really scraping the barrel. A move across to North London has been closed. What is the point of saying this. A move to Scunthorpe has been closed as well. Abysmal article. He is not going to Chelsea; Manchester United do not have £40m so that leaves man City, but Modric is not so stupid to go to a team where he will be rotated so it’s abroad or stay at Tottenham and, if I know Levey, it may well be the latter. And finally, they are NOT rumours as rumours have some basis of facts. They are made up stories by ‘journalist’. whereas this ‘article’ is just utter *****

HOW DARE YOU SPECULATE ON THE FUTURE OF A FOOTBALLER WHEN YOU HAVE NO CONNECTIONS WHATSOEVER WITH EITHER THE PLAYER, HIS CLUB, OR ANY CLUB YOU HAVE MENTIONED. THIS IS THE KIND OF TALK THAT HAS DESTROYED FOOTBALL. NO FUCK OFF BACK UNDER YOUR CABBAGE LEAF.

Cnuts like you said the same thing last year and you all ended up with egg on your faces, the same will happen again. Unlike Berbatov who had one year remaining on his contract and could easly have sulked his way thoughout the season and Spurs lose out had they not sold him to Manure. Modric on the other hand still has 4 years remaining on his contract and Daniel Levy has the upper hand. He told Chelsea what they could do with their £30M cash offer and a couple of players thrown in as a sweetner, the same will be said again. As for Manure making a bid, THEY HAVE’NT GOT THE MONEY and Levy will not deal with them end of. Get it in your thick head that Daniel Levy has already said that he has no intention of selling his star players. Manure and Chelsea has more chance of getting RVP from the Arse than trying to prize Spurs star players away this Summer of next january end of.

Spuds u have been financially mashed, chipped and deep fried by the blues. Modric doesn’t want to play for a second rate club with a big chicken on their shirt. Chelsea will be a lot stronger in the league this season. What part of 5-1 don’t you understand?

I was all ready to rip into this idiot but I think you guy’s have said it all. If he does go it will be abroad.

With regards to Chelsea why would he take a backward step to a 6th place team?

Spurs were voted the side that played the best football last season . ask Alex Ferguson and he will agree . We will continue to do well this season. All these web writers have fuck all else to write about but Spurs . Next season we should just put our Next Gen side to play Europa league and focus on the league and two cups . An even if we play worst football than this seaon we will never come out 6th in the league.

Or he could do as he is told. The Chairman decides his future, not his agent, not him, Levy. His future, just like last summer holds whatever Daniel Levy decides it holds.

I’m sure if someone offered £50 million he’d accept it but he wouldn’t even consider talking below £40 million.
