Arsenal in ‘advanced negotiations’ but is this French youngster the fix they need?

As Arsenal attempt to sew up third place in the Premier League, many fans have placed on eye on their potential summer spending. It’s generally felt that the Gunners lost the League last summer, where they failed to bring in the right reinforcements at the right time. Losing Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas is one thing, but waiting until the last available moment to replace them is inexcusable. With their talismanic striker Robin Van Persie’s future up in the air, fans will be hoping that Arsenal don’t make the mistakes of the past.

They already appear to have wrapped up their first summer signing. FC Koln’s Lukas Podolski is rumoured to have already agreed terms and though no official announcements have been made, it’s looking more and more like a sure thing.

Now we hear the news from France Football that Arsenal and Rennes are currently in ‘advanced negotiations’ regarding the transfer of Yann M’Vila. It’s also known that Wenger’s scouts have been to see him play in the past and the player has hinted that he’d be open to a move: “If the coach calls you and tells you he wants you to make you play, especially a French coach, it changes everything. The important thing for me is getting playing time for the France team.”That suggests to me that he’s keen to play under Arsene Wenger.

Nobody knows French talent like Arsene Wenger who also has an impressive knack for developing young talent. His move to Arsenal could kick his career up a notch and secure him the regular place in the French National side that he so craves.

Yann M’Vila has a exceptional blend of craft and power that has helped him stand out at both club and International level (he has 18 French caps despite his young age). He’s muscular, strong and difficult to bully. I’d associate him with the likes of Nigel de Jong and Yaya Toure for his ability to provide a team with a defensive backbone without compromising their offensive capacity.

Alex Song makes for a capable defensive midfielder, but he has a knack for getting forward and doesn’t always provide the cover that Arsenal’s back four desperately need. M’Vila would offer a more full-bodied defensive wall and should stop the Gunners leaking goals.

It’s also worth bearing in mind that Alex Song could well be off to the African Cup of Nations next season and that the likes of Emmanuel Frimpong and Francis Coquelin are still relatively inexperienced.

So Arsenal signing M’Vila is beginning not only to look more likely, but also more essential. What’s your take?

I have been an Arsenal Supporter since 1946 and have time & time said that Mr Wenger do’nt need more then three(3) top players to strenghten the team. Podololsky is in, if Vertoghen and Yann M’Vila are signed up then I would say that the Arsenal is strong to compete at all levels.

Arsenal have adequate a competive youngster in the reserves for Mr Wenger to have a team plan in which no plyer up to a certain extent will play more then 30 /35 games in a season.

This will ensure that players will not compain about tiredness and being “Off Form” apart from tinjuries which have bedevilled the “Arsenal Team”.

The missing link is perhaps a top class goalkeeper, that is something Mr Wenger has to sort out.

you cannot go for Vertongen AND M’Villa. You go for one of the two.I prefer vertongen as he’s more Versatile can cover for both CB and DM and is available at half the pricequoted foe m’villa

If Mr wenger m’villa adds to the squad,I think it will be a big boost for the team,we also need to buy a defender that is pacy and injury free.

  • Ajee says:

Hey there wuldnt be afcon nxt season til 2014, song wil stil be at arsenal xcept if hes been sold.

  • Mahmoud says:

I heard that Arsen Wenger is interested in mamadou from PSG ,but the problem with African players, they all disappeared in January to play for African cup. Then they are back exhausted and tired leg,ie. gervinho. January is a very important month to maintain a good position.

  • Moe says:

@Bryon there’s no AFCON next season. That dude don’t know simple arithemetics afcon takes place after every 2 years. M’villa coming to AFC is necessery and vital if we are to challenge for titles next season. Add Jan to him and possibly giroud, though I would want vela back, and we are real title conntenders.

  • Legolas says:

be wise guys and think about it if M’vila join us do u remember the combination of Gervinho – Viera ??????? look at our formation :
    Seczeney

    SAGNA—Koscienly–TV—Gibbs

    M’vila—-SONG

    Walcott—RVP—Gervino

    PODOLSKI

RVP can play same position as Dennis Bergkamp used to play behind Thierry Henry . i believe this is a great formation and M;villa beside Song who will dare to attack us ???????? 😀

  • Naijarsenic says:

AFCON has been restructured to take place in odd years so there woill be one in 2013 but it’ll be in the summer as opposed to winter.
