It’s not often that you would find yourself in a situation where 90 goals in your 159 club appearances would not warrant you a first team place. That’s the case though for Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain who as of late has constantly found himself behind Karim Benzema and of course Christiano Ronaldo in the pecking order. For a man so successful and still so young it seems ridiculous that he should have to settle for a place on the bench next to another ‘galactico’ named Kaka. Its events that have made recent claims in The Sun that Chelsea could be set offer the Argentine an escape route more feasible then they otherwise would have been.
The Sun claims that they could be willing to part £35 million for the forward’s services as Jose Mourinho wishes to accommodate a possible move for Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero. The claims may well fail to be realized as it seems particularly unlikely that Aguero would consider a move to the City rivals of his former club Athletico Madrid and depart City after just one season. As far as Higuain is concerned though, may be he should be considering his future elsewhere?
Higuain has just recently had his status confirmed as Madrid’s number two striker as the form of the younger Karim Benzema has been too good to ignore. It’s meant an unhappy Higuain having to bide his time on the bench and watch Benzema dominate teams for fun. The vicious circle seems to be endless for Higuain as Benzema’s form shows no signs of letting up and Mourinho’s choice of just one front line striker set in stone. Higuain deserves more than a place on the bench as his career is about to enter it’s pivotal timeline; Higuain has the ability to make himself a true great but perhaps not at Madrid.
So why should he consider Chelsea? The club has an endless supply of money it seems meaning the finance department of Higuain’s head will be adequately satisfied. As for on the pitch it seems Didier Drogba’s time at the club is coming towards an end despite his Champion’s League heroics and every one knows the well documented struggles of Fernando Torres. It also remains to be seen whether Romelu Lukaku will fulfill his promise and take over from Drogba.
The source of story can clearly be doubted but the quality of player Chelsea would be getting cannot. They would obtain a striker of the highest quality with a proven record in front of goal at an age where anything is still possible. Perhaps Abramovich should seriously consider this Argentine superstar?
