Are Manchester United’s transfer targets up to snuff?

Sir Alex Ferguson is often painted as a man who spends his every waking minute thinking football and planning his next great success. The recent quotes from Manchester United’s chief executive David Gill do little to shatter this image. “He didn’t sleep much on Sunday night. None of us did. He was in the office at 7.30 on Monday morning already thinking about next season,” he told Reporters.

We have to get on with it now. We can’t look back and feel sorry for ourselves. We have started planning for next year. We will come back fresh and I am always confident with this manager.”

As you read this you can bet that Fergie is obsessively plotting how to down the City behemoth. He’s probably putting the finishing touches on his ‘RIP Tevez banner’ at this very moment. As good as this United side is, there’s room for improvement – indeed, improvement is necessary if they’re to keep pace with Roberto Mancini’s side.

Sport360 say that Ferguson has identified his transfer targets and is ready for a busy summer. The two key major additions? Borussia Dortmund playmaker Shinji Kagawa, Robert Lewandowski and Lille’s Belgium sensation Eden Hazard.

I doubt many United fans would complain if Fergie managed to sign Hazard. He’s a remarkably talented young player (he’s picked up Ligue 1 Player of the Year two seasons in a row) and has all the tricks and flair to become a hit in the Premier League. He’s not goalshy, he can beat players and he’s still young. The only thing not in his favour is the fact that United are already pretty strong down the wings. Still, he’d be a different class of signing from Kagawa and Lewandowski. Dortmund’s top scorer Lewandski has had a great season scoring 30 goals in 46 games, but there’s nothing to say he’s not a flash in the pan. Last season he scored only 9 goals in just 43 appearances. As for Shinji Kagawa, he has plenty of goalscoring pedigree, but it’s not entirely clear that he’s the kind of midfielder that United need. The Red Devils need somebody who can feed the ball into their strikers and help the midfield link up better with the forward line. Kagawa does have a fair level of creativity to his game, but he’s no Wesley Sneijder or Luka Modric (both of whom, admittedly, have had relatively poor seasons). Of course, we need not worry yet. There’s a good chance that these transfer rumours are bunkum. I’m just not sure they are the kind of signings United need – but who am I to question Fergie? What’s your take?

saf had previously stated he is injecting pace to our attack
then kagawa is to be used more in uefa cl and big games for tactical change and hazard is new no7 nani is going for our traditional 4-4-2 k. Asamoah is good

The author needs to watch a dozen more games off Kagawa I reckon. You do know that Kagawa lad was the reason why the other Dortmund regulars could play their trademark flowing football. His attributes may be hard to see with a naked eye, but he comes with as much credentials as Hazard. Rooney would be scoring a lot more goals with Kagawa’s backing. I’d like to see them both come in. As for Lewandowski I’m not sure how good he will be without Kagawa playmaking for him, but I wouldn’t mind him here.

both kagawa and hazard are good. signing nick powell is not what we need now. we need proven players. i will also like nico gaitan to be bought. he’s quick and skillful. and can link up wit d attack well. havent heard any news linking nhim 2 utd lately.

we need proven players. last season was a failure by our standards. we have enough youth and experience in our team. what we need is steel in d middle and a lot of creativity wit kagawa, gaitan or hazard.

We want saf to sign atleast 4 players to inject fresh blood into the squard. We don’t see city as a treat because they are inconsistance,i have a believe that saf can depose city next season if he sign quality midfield players that can ditate the tempo of a game. Gill and saf should have a busy summer to freshen up the squard. GGMU.

i tink hazard, gaitan and kagawa is ok

City have player ego to work against them next season. In the meantime, we can get our act together. Get Hazard, Kagawa and Asamoah/Gaitan in then acquire Baines to give Evra motivation to step up. Next season we swoop up all trophies except Community Shield, of course.
