With little hope left for Liverpool this season (outside of the FA Cup) all that remains is for fans to look to the future and start pondering what transfer fixes can get their side back in contention next season. On the flip side, it’s also worth considering who’s not up to snuff and who needs to be shipped out.

Top of that list must surely be £35m flop Andy Carroll. Whilst the Red’s cannot hope to recoup the full amount they paid for his services back in January 2011, the time’s right to cash in and get what they can. There has got to be a club out there willing to take a gamble on Carroll for around £15-20m in the hope that all he needs is a change in surroundings for him to find his best form.

Which brings me to the rumour (courtesy of Goal.com) that Liverpool are looking to offload Andy Carroll in order to finance an ambitious move for £30m rated Napoli striker Edinson Cavani. Now that would be the kind of signing that could get Liverpool fans believing once more.

Cavani has been in wonderful form during his time in Naples, scoring 61 goals in 86 matches. The big-framed, technically efficient Uruguayan’s best quality is surely his composure in front of goal – the one thing that Liverpool are sorely lacking at the moment.

He’s one of world football’s premier strikers and the Red’s desperately need to prove that they are still capable of attracting real quality. The absence of Champions League football may well be a turn off for Cavani, but if he could be persuaded that Liverpool are a club building towards a bright future he may well consent to the move.

Whether Napoli will agree to sell is another matter. It would take a substantial fee to persuade them to part with their main man and I’m just not sure that £30m would be enough. With clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea also in the market for a striker, it’s a seller’s market and Napoli will be keen to get as much as they can for him.

Will Liverpool’s American owners be keen to splash the cash once more this summer having seen Kenny Dalglish and Damien Comolli spend so badly last year? That remains to be seen, but if the club are still willing to spend big money you can’t help but feel that Cavani would be just the signing that Liverpool need.

NAPOLI HAS PUT CAVANI ON THE WORLD MAP AND IS A TEAM GOING FOWARD AT A PACE OF KNOTS .WHY WOULD HE SIGN FOR LIVERPOOL AND SLIP INTO OBSCURITY.FORGET EUROPE LIVERPOOL ARE NO LONGER A FORCE EVEN IN ENGLAND

  • Andrew says:

No chance. He’s worth more than 30m and Liverpool aren’t good enough for him. If he leaves Napoli, he’ll leave for someone better.

last time I checked… Napoli is closer to Champions league qualification then Liverpool. LOL. Why would he leave a rising team for a falling one.

  • royce says:

Cavani wont be at Liverpool and they will be hard pressed to attract the talent needed to make the top four.
I firmly believe liverpool need luck with injuries and these flops to improve markedly, if liverpool are to be any hope at all of CL football.\
    Next season

Swap Kuyt for Forlan and sign Cavani, along with Suarez, all three would want to play together

That would be the best foward line in the PL

  • get rid of spearing carra cole aqalani kuyt maxi hendo adam none of them got pace witch u need in prem put the money towards a striker with pace a winger and center mid Coates at the back

  • Blackwog says:

I love LFC but the day KK bought Carroll for that stupid amount and he became that flop that he is, was the day club looked at LFC and said wow we can get some serious money from these clowns now. So i do not think LFC will be buying anyone at that price.

  • if carrol was at man u he’d score shit loads coz of the balls they put into box if we had signed better quality we’d be pushin for a top four place our squad is worse than last yer fact
