FIVE players who Spurs should keep their eye on during the transfer window:

Whilst Tottenham haven’t quite managed to maintain their early season form, they’ve still had a year to remember. For long patches of the season they’ve outclassed their London rivals and Chelsea still have some way to go before they catch up with them. They’ve surprised just about everyone and should they continue to improve at this rate on a season-by-season basis I wouldn’t be surprised if they were competing for the Premier League title over the next couple of years.

As impressive as Tottenham have been, I don’t think there has ever been any real belief that they could finish at the top of the Premier League. The main concern has been that Spurs finish in the top four with the view that anything else would be a bonus. I’d like to see this attitude change over the next couple of seasons. I want Tottenham’s main priority to be the top spot in the Premier League but I can’t see this happening without more investment in the transfer market. So who can Spurs bring in to bolster their chances?

One of my first targets would be Blackburn’s Junior Hoillet who’ll be available on a free this summer. He’s been impressive throughout this season but has really started to prove himself week-in and week-out over the last couple of months. He’s been the catalyst to Blackburn lifting themselves out of the relegation zone and looks like he could make the step up to a top club. He’s got great feet, pace and an eye for goal – best of all, he won’t be too expensive as Tottenham will only have to cover his wages.

Another alternative could be Sunderland’s Stephane Sessegnon who has been the Black Cat’s stand out player this season. His performances have seen him linked to Arsenal and a bunch of other European clubs and he looks like he’s ready to take his career to the next level.

What about Eden Hazard you ask? My feeling is that there’s going to be a massive bidding war for his signature this summer and Tottenham could do with investing their money elsewhere.

Tottenham also need to assess their forwards this summer. If Emmanuel Adebayor doesn’t take a significant wage reduction then perhaps Spurs should look elsewhere. Whilst they’ve been heavily linked with a move for Leandro Damiao, I’d be worried about the fact that he’s still untested on European soil. I can’t help but wish they’d loosen the purse strings and go for a player like Valencia’s Roberto Soldado who is a natural goalscorer (as 33 goals in 60 appearances denotes).

I’m sure he wouldn’t come cheap but perhaps funds could be freed up by cutting company with players like Steven Pienaar and Kranjcar.

Finally Tottenham have a desperate need to buy a young goalkeeper who can take over when Brad Friedel calls it quits. Could Tottenham manage to tempt Tim Krul away from Newcastle? If not is Michel Vorm another option?

What’s your take? How would you improve Tottenham over the summer?

Love to see Ruddy at Spurs myself. Very under-rated Keeper

I would like to see someone find Levy’s wallet because I am sure he misplaced it about two seasons ago and his bank account must be building up very nicely. The sooner we find it then I’m sure he must be ‘champing at the bit’ to go out and buy a few players. Why other reason for not buying anyone in the last two years unless we are turning Spurs into a retirement home for football players on their last legs.

All good players but Hoilett will only be providing either a cover or competition for Lennon, Hazard is a free floating player if Spurs sign him then there is no point in signing Hoilett or maybe keeping VDV. To me the most major 4 issues are , firstly another experienced hopefully below 30 years of age centre half alongside Caulker coming back home to replace ageing Gallas,King ,Nelsen ..secondly another specialist left full back to cover Assou Ekotto who is taking too much weight on his shoulders during the season, thirdly a top class striker to possibly take Defoes place, as much as we love Defoe,he is not a title contender team striker, neither he is a team player..and fourth and lastly a classy and dependable goal keeper..obviously Modric and Bale musnt go and Adebayor must be signed permanently.

Starting at the back I’d bring in Vertonghen and make him the lynchpin of the defence. Dawson and kaboul I’d keep but I’d be looking for Caulker to partner the Belgian. I’d look to bring in Wendt or Tremoulinas to spar with benni at lb. right side Walker is fine and cover I’m with either naughton or smith. GK, I’d really like Stekelenberg but Krul, Vorm would also be good shouts.
The much lauded midfield is where my biggest changes would come, I love Parker but question is legs post December and also is creativity. Sandro is my choice for the defensive midfield position and Huddlestone to play alongside him. I do believe Bale will stay while Modric will leave. Lennon on right with Hoilett competing would be nice. I don’t feel cover for Bale has to be a world beater, just someone who can play left well and not mind not featuring too much. Van Der Vaart would probably be my shock departure, but for me he isn’t mobile enough for the premiership and can’t last a full 90 minutes and it’s here I’d like Eden Hazard. Upfront in the lone striker role, I’d like Leandro Damiao but there will be choices this summer. Adebayor, Huuntelaar and maybe Dzeko. Then you’ve Rossi, Negredo Kerzhakov. But with the midfield spurs would have any striker worth two rubs would score. Gallas, Nelsen, king, corluka

Bentley, Niko, Defoe, Saha, Gomes, all could be sold to free up funds but even then don’t think we’d get a great deal back

  • BartSpur says:

Keep our top players & bring in Hoillet, Hazzard, Vertonghen and at least 1 world class striker – whoever is available and affordable. Rossi, Remy, Damaio etc…

Krul, Vertonghen, Hazard and Falcao is my dreamlist of players coming inn in the summer.

For me Spurs have a great squad.Centre forward is a huge problem.I watch many Brazilian games and i would love to see Leandro in a Spurs shirt. This guy is something else.
