I always find it a little perplexing when ex-footballers break transfer news regarding their old clubs. In most cases it’s nothing more than self-publicizing nonsense, with the intention of getting them back on the footballing map. Very rarely is there anything pertaining to truth in their claims. So what do we make of Bruce Grobbelaar telling the world that Liverpool are on the verge of signing two new strikers?
Thanks to his ban, Luis Suarez won’t get a Liverpool game until mid-February and in his current form Andy Carroll is unlikely to get a goal until about February next year. Dirk Kuyt is more of a workhorse than a goal-scorer and though Craig Bellamy has looked good, it’s clear that Liverpool need a little more firepower.
As if it wasn’t clear enough, the Reds 0-0 draw with Stoke told you everything you need to know about their poor start to the season.
Grobbelaar told TalkSPORT: “There are two strikers [Liverpool are interested in],” said Grobbelaar. “I know that [Kenny Dalglish] is looking at a South American striker who is playing in Holland and I know that he’s quite close in getting another striker. I’m not going to be the one to actually tell you who, but I’m sure that the striker will be arriving soon.”
So who on earth is Bruce talking about, and more to the point – how is Bruce privy to this kind of insider information?
There’s some speculation that the South American striker playing in Holland is David Texeira, but he’s listed on Wikipedia as an attacking midfielder. I can’t claim to know how good a player he is, but I assume if he is the player Bruce is talking about, the Liverpool scouts have done their job and found a quality player that won’t cost a fortune.
Unfortunately, he doesn’t look great, at least not on paper. He has 3 goals in 20 appearances for FC Groningen and he missed the entire 2010/2011 season. Not exactly ideal. Still, he’s only 20 years-old and with the right tutoring could make something of himself.
What’s more, his full name is: César David Texeira Torres. Perhaps this transfer was meant to be?
As for who this other mystery striker is, that’s anybody’s guess.

I think you are confused. If you spent more than 5 seconds on wikipedia you would be able to read that he is listed as a striker! He has 3 international goals! and has scored 7 in 12 games this year for his club.
I spent no more than 20 seconds on the site yet could glean this. Are you confusing him Joao Carlos Texeira who is an attacking midfielder for Sporing Lisbon?

No, the thing that’s got most people frustrated is the so-called fans who are using the over-rated English thing like its a valid point.
Since when is Enrique English, or Bellamy? Henderson looks like he could be a real good player in the future and Downing has been doing his job and getting the crosses over, not his fault the strikers aren’t converting them.
Of his purchases only Carroll looks poor and we know from his time at NUFC that he has the ability but for some reason its not showing.
Perhaps we should give Kenny some time and have some faith? or do you only want to bitch and moan, if so go support Blackburn.
Henry should get these two out. Their signings have been very poor. Really not interested in watching LFC matches until they’re gone. And to people wko think I’m not a true supporter, I think they should first look at themselves and ask, will they be patient if it were hodgson in charge? Football really is not rocket science! Just because i’m not a coach does not mean dalglish is always right and people like us are wrong. If he thinks football is so tough, he should try some calculus spiced with logarithm and algebraic equations! The annoying thing is he spent a fortune on players when we knew there were better alternatives. In addition to d torres and babel cash, kuyt, spearing, aurelio, aquilani and cole should have been sold outright. This should fetch 20m, plus the 56m from torres and babel, that makes 76m. FSG adds another 50m, that makes 126m. Look at this;
