There may be a collective cheer tomorrow morning from United fans with the news that one of the least popular players at the club: Darron Gibson is in talks with Everton over a January move.
The Mirror notes:
Manchester United’s Darron Gibson has emerged as a £2.5million target for Everton.
Gibson has been told by manager Sir Alex Ferguson that he can leave United, and is understood to have held preliminary talks with the Goodison Park club.
The Republic of Ireland midfielder was set to leave United for Sunderland in the summer, but the proposed move broke down over personal terms.
Gibson has made just two appearances this season, having fallen out of favour. He has also suffered a broken metatarsal.
Readers of this site, or followers of mine on twitter will no I’ve always championed the youth academy product as not being nearly as bad as many United fans claim he is.
The fact is though, with the return of Paul Scholes, plus ‘restaurant-gate’, it’s not been an easy Christmas period for the midfielder and it now seems that one of Sir Alex’s least loved charges will be departing.
Many Reds may be glad to see the back of him, but I’ll stand by my assessment of Gibson as a player who given the chance could have been a useful squad member for United.

Seriously? You’ve posted this a good few hours after the official Everton website confirmed the story and put pictures of Darron in his new Everton training kit on the website, I assume the official United website ran the same story at the same time, lazy bit of journalism this. By the time this was written you should have been reporting that he had officially signed as confirmed by both clubs, not that there was a rumour he might.
