Why this Manchester City cast off could be just the ticket for Newcastle United:

Here’s a question to Newcastle fans, if a sensible arrangement could be made in terms of wages, would you take Manchester City striker Jo? The fact is, at 24-years-old he’s still young and would likely be available on the cheap as Manchester City will be looking to get him off of their wage bill. He hasn’t really had his fair share of opportunities at Eastlands and I’d argue that he’s a better player than most fans give him credit.

Consider his first season on loan at Everton where he racked up an impressive 5 goals in 12 League appearances – including a brace in his debut against Bolton Wanderers. Although his second spell at Everton and his stay at Galatasaray weren’t quite as impressive, I still believe that if he was playing regularly in a team like Newcastle, who could offer him decent service, that he’d soon prove himself at the club.

His inability to find his place in a congested Manchester City squad has seen him lead a somewhat nomadic existence, but should he settle down in a decent squad, I’m sure he’d bring goals with him.

At the moment Newcastle are thought to be particularly keen on signing Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea. My feeling, however, is that they should sell Shola Ameobi and Lovenkrands in order to finance a move for both Sturridge and Jo. Adding Charles N’Zogbia would complete an attacking trio that would offer Newcastle real flair upfront. But perhaps I’m getting carried away.

Jo is tall, quick and can score goals, not unlike a player that Newcastle sold to Liverpool for £35m last January. Whilst he’ll doubtless never quite ascend to those heights, he surely has the ability to leave his mark at Newcastle.

Whilst Pardew has already brought in Demba Ba this summer, the feeling is that there is more work to be done to Newcastle’s strike-force. Top class additions such as Sturridge and Jo could be just what the Magpies need to find themselves competing towards the top of the Premier League table once more.

Whilst many may view the move as something of a risk, if Newcastle can negotiate fair terms with City and if the player would be willing to take a step down in terms of wages, any such deal would likely prove to be an astute one for Pardew et al.
