Should Wenger target unsettled Samba in January?

|

Written by Tony Merakli

Blackburn skipper Christopher Samba has revealed today that he is seeking an escape route out of the Lancashire club, after being angered by the sacking of manager Sam Allardyce last week. Could this be the feasible transfer target Arsene Wenger has been waiting for this winter?

The 26-year-old is currently considering his future at Blackburn following what he believes to be unfair treatment towards his former boss. Rumours are suggesting that the Congolese centre-back will hand in a transfer request by the end of the day. Speaking to The Sun today, Samba told of his frustration at what is unfolding at his club:

‘If this is the way the club’s going to be run from now on, I don’t want to be part of it and I want to leave. As captain it’s very difficult to say this but I’ve thought long and hard about it. Nobody in football understands the decision to sack Sam.’

Wenger has already dismissed any major signings this winter, despite making a record £56 million profit. The Frenchman believes that even with this amount of cash, the North London club could still not compete with big spenders Manchester City and Chelsea in the market. However, Wenger did concede that he is willing to spend a fraction of his funds if necessary.

Well a number of Arsenal fans (including myself) believe that it is essential for Wenger to reinforce the defence this January, and Samba wouldn’t be such a bad acquisition in my opinion. We have looked very shaky at the back without the powerful presence of Thomas Vermaelen, and even though Wenger brought in Laurent Koscielny and Sebastien Squillaci in the summer, our defence still doesn’t look solid enough.

I have in the past suggested that Wenger should make a move for Roma’s Philippe Mexes, which could still ensue this January. However, I now feel Christopher Samba would be a more ideal target for Arsenal.

The Congolese centre-back is built like a tank, superb in the air and has great awareness in terms of positioning. Samba also has bags of Premier League experience under his belt and is easily, in my eyes, one of the best centre-backs in the English game today.

I have always been a huge fan of the 6’4’’ defender and would love to see Arsenal at least enquire about his services this winter. It is thought that Samba is rated at around £8 million by Rovers, which is a reasonable asking price that Wenger could afford. We need someone dominant and powerful to partner Thomas Vermaelen in the back-line, and I believe Christopher Samba would be the perfect candidate for the job.

has samba ever played in defense that plays a high line and who’s fullbacks bomb forward at every oppertunity, in other words does he suit our style, I’ve only ever seen him play in a deep lying defense that restricts how much its fullbacks attack. He aint quick either

samba is quick. I think he is one of the top centre halves in the league. you have to consider why blackburn finished mid table with a weak midifeld and forwards. I think it’s because of givet, nelsen and samba.

There’s one big caveat to this: you have to question his judgement if he is upset about pig boy getting shafted.

    Anyday

    Always

Make the bid at 0001hrs on 1 Jan 2011.

Should not be missed. If we can get Samba+TV CB pairing for majority of remaining season, we still can have a good shot at FA cup and premier league as well.

AW please surprise us by buying him

I have rated big Chris for some time, just the kind of scare the s@@t out of them bruiser that Arsenal have been lacking since Martin Keown.I couldn’t see the likes of Drogba bullying Chris Samba off the ball.Is he an Arsenal type of player? I don’t give a F@@@, he is a defender first and foremost that is his job an he is good at it. Fed up with all of these diddy men that we have in the team who shrink in the wash against the likes of Chelsea and the Mancs, we need some big boys who can fight for the right to party.Big Chris in yer face would scare me alot more than any of the centre backs we currently have, and he is an organiser fist waver.Would he look pretty in an Arsenal shirt? Yes,he would look pretty if he has the opposition eating dirt!!!!!

What are you on? Samba would get in any team in the Prem, Man u, Chelsea, he is one of the fastest thinkers and readers of the game in the Prem plays front or back hard as hell.
People slate Rovers however if they put the full team up for sale over 50% would be sold to teams in the top half of the prem
    Ie
    Robinson
    Samba
    Jones
    Pederson
    Nelson
    Salgado
    Kalinic
Most of Rovers team are good footballers they need the correct manager.(others are W@@k)
There is no point buying any of the players in the January window, wait till the end of the season when we go down and they all hand in transfer requests
Sams style sucked however he worked wonders with the resorces avalable.
He also keeped Rovers up when this time 2 yrs ago we were odds on to go down.
