IF Anelka wants MLS move, should we sell him while we can?

There have been a few rumours doing the rounds today about Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka potentially being interested in a move to the MLS once his contract has expired at Stamford Bridge.

I’m taking these stories with a pinch of salt, but Anelka is now 31-years-old and his contract expires in 2012. The Frenchman is yet to be offered a new deal by Chelsea and his current one is set to expire in 2012, so would it be in the Blues’ interest to sell him whilst he is still a saleable asset?

The former Bolton man has been in fair form this season and has grabbed 10 goals in 19 appearances, but his form has been lacking of late and I find him quite frustrating to watch at times – which is why I would like to see Daniel Sturridge given his chances ahead of faltering duo Anelka and Salomon Kalou.

According to the Daily Star, Claude Anelka, the Blues striker’s agent and brother said:

“Nicolas told me he is interested in playing in the United States.

“We could see him crossing the Atlantic, and I’m serious when I say this. He asked himself what he will do once his current contract runs out.

“The US is quite something, and a dream destination. He says he will give it a try, even though he would earn less money than in somewhere like Qatar.”

I’m not sure whether Anelka wants to stay or go and I’m certainly not going to treat a tabloid’s words as gospel, but as we lost Juliano Belletti, Deco, Michael Ballack and Joe Cole for nothing in the summer, a sale is worth bearing in mind.
