Bruno Martins Indi

According to reports from Mirror Football this morning, Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has sent scouts to run the rule over FC Porto defender Bruno Martins Indi.

The Netherlands international was part of the Old Trafford gaffer’s Netherlands squad at last summer’s World Cup and featured prominently as Oranje won the third-place playoff in Brazil.

Many tipped him to become one of LVG’s first signings as Red Devils boss following the tournament, having also impressed during his four Eredivisie campaigns with Feyenoord, but the 6 foot 1 defender moved to Estadio du Dragao instead in a €7.7million deal.

According to Mirror Football, however, who cite reports from Portuguese publication O Jogo, the 23 year-old is back on United’s radar. The club’s scouts watched him during Porto’s 2-1 win over Chelsea in the Champions League on Tuesday evening – along with representatives from Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur.

The British tabloid believe United’s interest could stem from Luke Shaw’s absence, having been ruled out for the majority of the season with a double leg break.

Although primarily considered a central defender, Martins Indi is equally comfortable at left-back.
