Two ex Chelsea gaffers in the frame for Liverpool post

Carlo Ancelotti (2)

According to reports from The Daily Mail and The Metro, two former Chelsea managers are in the running to take the vacant management post at Liverpool.

Brendan Rodgers was sacked yesterday afternoon following a draw with Everton in the Merseyside derby, leaving the Reds 10th in the Premier League table, but it’s believed to decision to remove him as Anfield boss was made some time ago and irrespective of the 1-1 result at Goodison Park.

The Daily Mail claim Jurgen Klopp, who claimed two Bundesliga titles and reached a Champions League final during his spell as Broussia Dortmund manager, is currently the favourite to succeed Rodgers – a view shared by The Telegraph and The Daily Star.

But The Mail also claim Carlo Ancelotti is in the frame and flew to London from Italy on Friday night. In terms of silverware, the 56 year-old is indisputably one of world football’s best, boasting three Champions League titles as well as domestic honours from Serie A, the Premier League, Ligue 1 and La Liga.

That includes lifting the Premier League crown with Chelsea in 2009/10; a campaign which saw the Blues net a Premier League record 103 times.

The Metro, meanwhile, citing Football-Italia.net, moot fellow former Blues boss Roberto Di Matteo as a rank outsider for the Anfield hotseat.

During a short but successful spell as Stamford Bridge manager following the abrupt departure of Andre Villas-Boas in 2012, the former midfielder lead Chelsea to an FA Cup and a Champions League title before being sacked just a matter of months later.

He’s currently without a job, having resigned as Schalke manager at the end of last season following their failure to qualify for the Champions League.

Who’s the best candidate for the job; Jurgen Klopp, Carlo Ancelotti, Roberto Di Matteo or someone else entirely? Comment below!
