According to reports from The Daily Star this morning, Augsburg defender Abdul Rahman Baba has agreed personal terms with Chelsea.

The 21 year-old has just come to the end of a real breakthrough campaign at the SGL arena, claiming four assists in 31 appearances whilst averaging the second-most tackles per match (3.5) of any player in the Bundesliga.

The Ghana international has resultantly been linked with a host of top European clubs clubs this summer, including Manchester City, Manchester United and Real Madrid in May, Arsenal and Chelsea in June, and Atletico Madrid, Juventus, Inter Milan and Roma last month.

But Stamford Bridge has been documented as his likeliest next destination for some time. Reports from the end of July claimed Abdul Rahman Baba had already agreed personal terms with the Premier League champions, something which his agent has now confirmed.

As quoted by The Star, representative Sascha Empacher has told reporters; “It is only the clubs that have to find an agreement. We on our side are agreed.”

Last week, The Independent alleged Chelsea had agreed a £17.6million fee with Augsburg but it appears negotiations between the two clubs are still awaiting conclusion.

Two scenarios are likely; either the Blues want the Bundesliga outfit to lessen their valuation – which would explain links with Tottenham’s £15million-rated Danny Rose yesterday – or Augsburg want added clauses in the deal, which is common practice for transfers involving young, high-potential players.

Regardless, The Daily Star believe Abdul Rahman Baba could be flown in for a medical some time this week.
