Seydou Doumbia (CSKA Moscow)

According to reports from The Express this morning, Premier League new boys Watford are in talks to sign Roma striker Seydou Doumbia.

The Ivory Coast international is best famed for his prolific spell at CSKA Moscow, twice winning the Russian Premier League’s Golden Boot and amassing 84 goals in 130 appearances in total for the Khimki Arena outfit.

Despite well-documented interest from Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs – according to The Express – the 27 year-old was snapped up by Roma in January 2015 for a £10.8million fee.

But Doumbia has struggled to transition his proficiency to Serie A, netting just twice in 13 league outings for Giallorossi, and manager Rudi Garcia is allegedly willing to cut his losses by letting the 5 foot 11 poacher leave for England.

Currently, he’s believed to be in talks with recently promoted Watford, who also signed Roma full-back Jose Hobelas last week. The Express claim the notion of selling Doumbia first arose during negotiations regarding the Greek international – although a loan move to the Hertfordshire club is still as possibility.

Whether news of Doumbia’s availability convinces his former suitors to revive their interest remains to be seen.
