Should Arsenal still be interested in Yohan Cabaye?

Yohan CabayeArsenal fans must be amazed with how little return they’ve got from their £42.4m record signing, Mesut Ozil. The German ace created a wealth of good feeling when he first arrived at The Emirates and backed this up with tremendous performances against teams like Sunderland and Napoli.

Soon after that, however, things started to go cold. Suddenly Ozil’s game started to slow down, he started dwelling on the ball and turning into trouble. Nowadays, he’s more or less a liability for The Gunners. Fans won’t be happy to see him pick up a major injury, but it does give a chance for other squad players to step up and stake their claim. Are the likes of Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla up for the challenge?

Of course, there’s a chance that Arsene Wenger could surprise us all and go off in another direction. He could use the January transfer window to add a bit more flair to his midfield – flair that Mesut Ozil just doesn’t seem to be providing at the moment.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Arsenal are still interested in Paris Saint Germain star, Yohan Cabaye. The source suggests that the Frenchman has grown dissatisfied in Ligue 1 and that he may well be willing to return back to the Premier League.

Of course, we already know that Cabaye is a player that Arsene Wenger likes. The Professor submitted a £10m bid for him whilst he was still at Newcastle. The bid seriously affected the Frenchman’s mindset (it was clear that he wanted to move to The Emirates), but nothing came of it.

Makes you wonder: if he was offered another shot to compete at the top of the Premier League, would he take it?

I certainly hope so. At 28-years-old, Cabaye is now at the peak of his game. He’s awesome on the ball, he’s capable of delivering a killer pass and he’s not too shabby with the net at his mercy. He’s a truly effective performer and I can’t help but feel that he’d do a better job than Mesut Ozil at this moment in time.

Let’s just hope that Arsene Wenger feels the same way.

What’s your take? Is Yohan Cabaye still a good option for The Gunners?
