Jackson MartinezAfter spending big last summer, it’ll be interesting to see how much money Spurs have to spare this time around. Too many of the players brought in by Andre Villas-Boas and Daniel Levy haven’t been up to snuff, but does the club really have enough financial firepower to make another raft of wholesale changes?

It’s highly unlikely. I can’t see Spurs making more than one or two signings this summer, but I’ve got my fingers crossed that the right personnel are brought in. If Daniel Levy makes this right decisions this summer, he could put Tottenham in a great position to secure a top four slot next season.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Spurs are on the hunt for FC Porto’s super striker, Jackson Martinez. This is very exciting news indeed and it strikes me that this is the calibre of player that the club should have chased last summer.

Sure, nobody could have foretold that Roberto Soldado would have been such a bad fit, but wouldn’t it have made sense for Spurs to hedge their bets in this area of the pitch? Instead they brought in way too many midfielders and were left with a thoroughly underwhelming strike-force.

Nothing about Jackson Martinez strikes me as underwhelming. The Colombian international has been in sensational form since moving to FC Porto two seasons ago. He’s made 86 appearances for the club and has scored 58 goals. Isn’t that the kind of firepower Tottenham need?

It also strikes me that Jackson Martinez is better configured for the Premier League than Roberto Soldado ever was. The 6 foot tall striker is stocky, physically imposing and pacey. He can get in behind, he can hold players off and he has the ability to bring Tottenham’s crafty midfielders into play. He’d be an excellent addition to this squad.

The Metro claim that he could be available for as little as £18m. That’s a relative bargain considering his quality and his goal-scoring record. If he’s really available at this price, Spurs would be foolish not to snap him up.

What’s your take? Should Tottenham move in for this Colombian sensation? Are there any other options worth considering?

Only he’s not £18M and Napoli have agreed to sign him for around €34M.

Except that it appears Porto actually want his buy out clause 40 mill euros not £18 mill

I have watched Jackson since he arrived here , 18 million ? Thats nothing like the price Pinto Costa would have let him go for ,If you think Levy is a tough dealer ???? And Jackson has gone off the boil this year ! Soldado a class player its not his fault the way he was played ? But him and Jackson together ?wow ??

  • Capone says:

Levy can sell Dembele,Vertonghen,Kaboul,Saldado and some of the fringe players, buy Jackson,Pato(or Hulk)and Marco Reus

  • victor67 says:

If stats showed him to be ” Stocky , 6 footer, imposing, Pacey,”
This is the typ of Striker, in the Benteke mould, Spurs needed quite badly.
Not another similar small Defoe-like striker.
    58 goals in 2 seasons,
    Looks good. et him

When are you arseholes going to stop with this shit. Spurs have been linked with every Tom, Dick and Harry by you knobs. This same guy amongst others was touted in various blogs including this one last Summer and is just regurgitated bullshit. If and when a new manager takes the helm at Spurs, he will pretty much have his own ideas who he wants to keep and who he wants to replace and no amount of stupid suggestions by people like yourself masquerading as journalists in the know will have any influence what so ever.
