At £10m surely this young British talent would be a steal for Liverpool?

When it comes to Adam Johnson, it’s difficult to know who to believe. According to some sources he’s perfectly content at the Etihad stadium, whilst according to others he’s itching for a move. One paper will say that Roberto Mancini is prepared to sell the 24-year-old, whilst another will claim that Manchester City view him as a keeper.

One of these stories, run by the Daily Star, claim that Manchester City would entertain bids of around £10m for Adam Johnson’s services. Of course, it’s difficult to know exactly how true this is. Man City spent £8m bringing Johnson in from Middlesbrough and he’s improved in quality significantly in the proceeding years. Given his status as a young British talent (and given that Liverpool spent approximately £20m on Jordan Henderson last summer) that price tag seems rather low.

Perhaps, moneybags Manchester City are merely exercising their more generous side. He’s a player who hasn’t got a fair run of games in the first team and they may well be prepared to accept bids below his worth in order to give him the exit route he deserves. He’s a good player but he’s perhaps not as fully formed as a number of others in City’s roster so it’s fair to say he’ll always be a part of the squad’s second string.

This incongruous price-tag has come on the back of The Mirror running a story that claims Liverpool are interested in signing Johnson. Now £10m doesn’t seem like to steep a price for the Reds to pay when it comes to a player with as much potential as Johnson.

Last summer Liverpool gambled on Stewart Downing. I think it’s fair to say that that experiment was a failure. No League goals, after 72 shots is an absolutely dreadful return. The Reds need a player like Johnson to run the wings. A player who offers results, not just potential. If the club are ever to drag themselves back up to the Premier League, Johnson is exactly the kind of player they should be looking at.

So if there’s any truth to the claims that he currently has a £10m price-tag, I think Liverpool should snap him up – preferably before any good performances in the Euros bolster his valuation.

What’s your take? Would he be a bargain signing? Should Liverpool shoot for more fully formed players?

10 million is the right price remembering his wages are sky high and unlikely to be matched by poorer clubs.
Also he is a part timer and that valuation is perfect.

Adam Johnson looks class and has great potential. I can’t see him being sold for 10 mill tho but i do see him being sold.

So what if he’s 3rd choice at City, they have a team of world class players it can be hard for an up and coming player to break the line, but whenever he does play he’s either scoring or creating chances for the team.

I can’t beleive some people saying he’s 3rd choice at City why do we want him, what a bunch of jokers you are, do you think any 1st choice top class player whose in the CL would want to come to us??? Get off your high horses and accept we aint the force we once were we can’t attract many of the worlds best players, we have to look for other teams scraps (not that Johnson is scrap)

Johnson will do wonders at any club he goes to given a chance, i just hope he comes to LFC, he will piss all over Downing.

Go and get him for £10m (Think it will be more like £15m) he will be a great buy, as soon as he gets a run in the team and he will then get into the england squad.

    Selling:
Aquilani, Spearing, Cole, Kuyt (Gone), Darby, Adam.(Sell for £15m + 30m budget = £45m budget)

    Then add:
    Sigurdson £6m, A Johnson £12m, G Ramirez £15m, Huntelaar or De Jong £12m (£45m Total)

Adam Johnson carries a lot of baggage with him, form a very partying lifestyle to the diving without being touched, LFC would be better off looking elseway. Sygi,Diame [i thinked he is signed], Wanyama, Krasic, Hoillet, Kalou, Michu, Moses are some of the names we have been linked to now, however if I read BR’s statement well on LFCTV, scouts are busy at the Euros, and other places around the world. Come 1st July, things will be clear. DanieRed YNWA

Bellamy has form wild parties arrests hitting players with golf sticks, Gerrards had form hitting a DJ and has also dived in the past, what’s your point? Adam Johnson is class and will be class for LFC
