Their biggest weaknesses are in turn, their defense and goalkeeper. Victor Valdes isn’t necessarily a name that strikes fear into the hearts of opposition strikers. They have 2 strong center backs but if these are injured they have little choice but to play defensive midfielder in there place. Maybe this is where they need to spend some of their money?
Real Madrid, the Galacticos, who have great players all over the team. Whilst Barcelona invested heavily in youth a long time ago (back when Real Madrid were winning everything) Real have a different model, they go out and buy one huge player at the top of world football and corss their fingers that he’ll lead the club to success. Cristiano Ronaldo, valued at £80 million is a great player. He can head, take players on, find that killer pass or fall over anywhere near the penalty area. But in fairness, Madrid have big players in all positions. Very quiet in the transfer market this summer no flagship signing like we normally see.
Their biggest asset might well be there manager Jose Mourinho, already won the Champions league with Porto and Inter Milan as well as a list of other domestic honours with former teams. Could he master mind Real Madrid to their 10th European crown? His previous teams however were built on disciplined, resolute die-hard defence. He knocked out Barcelona a few years ago when he won the champions league with Inter Milan, with an impressive focus on stubborn defending. However his Real Madrid team isn’t built on this style of play.
Their football is based on passing and individual brilliance. After a few seasons of Injuries, Kaka who was the best in the world not so long ago now has the time to get himself back to where he was and could be a huge player for them. Ronaldo and Kaka in full flight would be an amazing combination. Their weakness again is their defence which lacks discipline. Luckily they have probably the best goalkeeper in the world behind them in Iker Casillas.
Yet only one team can win the Champions League. So will it be Real Madrid or Barcelona?
